T'Pau (band)
T'Pau are an English pop group formed in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, led by singer Carol Decker. They had a string of Top 40 hits in the UK during the late 1980s and early 1990s, most notably " China in Your Hand", " Heart and Soul" and " Valentine", and several hits in the rest of Europe, before disbanding in 1992. Decker still performs under the name T'Pau at solo shows and 1980s nostalgia concerts, and in 2013 she reunited with original band member and co-songwriter Ronnie Rogers for a 25th-anniversary UK tour. History The band formed in 1986, taking their name from a Vulcan elder of the same name in the sci-fi series ''Star Trek''. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. European Top 100 Albums
The European Top 100 Albums chart was the European adaptation of the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart. It ran from March 1984 until December 2010. Also commonly referred to as Eurochart Top 100 Albums, the chart showcased the sales of an act in 19 European countries based on IFPI data. The European Top 100 combined album sales (both retail and digital) of new and older albums. The methodology was different from the US ''Billboard'' 200, where albums would only be allowed to chart if they weren't 18 months old. If an album older than 18 months had enough sales to enter the 200 chart after having already dropped out of the 100th position, it would chart on The ''U.S. Billboard'' Catalog Albums. Later ''Billboard'' reviewed the criteria and decided the older albums would also be allowed to chart in the 200, as it should show what's being sold. Dean Howard (musician)
Dean Howard (born 7 May 1961, Greenwich, London) is a guitarist who was part of Ian Gillan's backing band on the Deep Purple frontman's U.S. solo tour in August and September 2006. Dean was working with Toby Jepson (ex Little Angels), and is now with Air Race. Career Howard first came into the public eye in the 1980s when he joined the pop/rock band T'Pau, fronted by the singer Carol Decker. Howard joined after their debut album '' Bridge of Spies'' was released and original lead guitarist, Taj Wyzgowski, had departed. He added a more heavy rock style of guitar work which was first featured on the re-recording of one of the tracks from Bridge of Spies, " China in Your Hand". This subsequently stayed at number one in the UK single charts for five weeks and was the band's biggest hit. Carol Decker
Carol Ann Decker (born 10 September 1957) is an English singer and musician. She is the lead vocalist of the band T'Pau, which had international success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Although Decker is mainly associated with the group, she also released "One Heart," a solo single in 1995, to support the centenary of the formation of the Northern Rugby Football Union (the Rugby League code) and sometimes performs solo at shows and festivals. Decker's personal record label is GnatFish. Life and career Decker was born in Liverpool, Lancashire (now Merseyside) and educated in Wellington, Shropshire. In addition to her musical achievements, Decker has also acted on both stage and screen, including the role of Steven Berkoff's wife in the 2002 film ''9 Dead Gay Guys''. ''Bridge of Spies'' is the debut album by British pop group T'Pau, released in September 1987. For its US release, Virgin Records renamed ''Bridge of Spies'' to simply ''T'Pau''. Overview The album was produced by Roy Thomas Baker. It spawned five hit singles – " Heart and Soul" (also a Top 5 in the US), the best-selling number one hit " China in Your Hand" (re-recorded especially for single release), " Valentine," a live version of "Sex Talk" (previously released in its original form as "Intimate Strangers") was issued in the UK, and " I Will Be with You". A further release, a remix of the title track "Bridge of Spies", was also released in the US, Canada, Australia and Germany. "Walk on Air" is a song by British band T'Pau, which was released in 1991 as the second single from their third studio album '' The Promise''. It was written by Carol Decker and Ron Rogers, and produced by Andy Richards. "Walk on Air" reached No. 62 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the charts for two weeks. A music video was filmed to promote the single.
