''The Promise'' is the fourth studio album by American hip hop group Freestyle Fellowship. It was released on Decon in 2011. In September 2011, ''Prefix'' premiered "Step 2 the Side". In November that year, ''Prefix'' premiered the music video for "We Are". Critical reception Jason Lymangrover of AllMusic gave the album 3 stars out of 5, saying, "futuristic beats by Black Milk, Eligh, Kenny Segal, and Exile provide an updated setting for the dexterous wordplay." Luke Gibson of ''HipHopDX'' said, "The end result of ''The Promise'' sees a legendary group that can still deliver inspired music." Freestyle Fellowship
Freestyle Fellowship is an American hip hop group from Los Angeles, California. It consists of Aceyalone, Myka 9, P.E.A.C.E., and Self Jupiter. The group was a prominent part of the Good Life Cafe collective, and are part of the Project Blowed collective. History While in high school in the late 1980s, Aceyalone, Myka 9, and Self Jupiter formed the short-lived MC Aces, a precursor to Freestyle Fellowship, at the Good Life Cafe in Los Angeles, California. Subsequently, former high school friend P.E.A.C.E. was added to form Freestyle Fellowship. Freestyle Fellowship released the debut studio album, '' To Whom It May Concern...'', in 1991. In 1993, the group released the second studio album, ''Innercity Griots''. Freestyle Fellowship went on hiatus due to the incarceration of Self Jupiter. Decon'' is a New York-based creative studio that houses production, creative, strategy, and music divisions. The company creates campaigns on behalf of brands and advertising agencies. History Originally named Deconstruction Company, the company was founded in 2002 by Peter Bittenbender and Jason Goldwatch after the creation of their award-winning hip-hop documentary and accompanying soundtrack, ''One Big Trip''.
