The Present (2014 Film)
''The Present'' is a 2014 animated short film directed and co-written by Jacob Frey and co-written with Markus Kranzler. It is based on "Perfeição", a comic strip by Fabio Coala. The short film tells the story of a 12 year old boy who gets a three-legged puppy from his mom, eventually warming up to him. The short explores the challenging topic of disability and living with an amputated leg. The film has won 81 awards from several film festivals and has garnered acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Both Kranzler and Frey would go on to get hired at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios respectively, particularly because of the attention ''The Present'' had received. Fabio Coala
Fabio Coala is a Brazilian comics artist. After five years of working as a firefighter, he created the website ''Mentirinhas'' (''"Little Lies"'') in which he publishes, starting in 2010, webcomics with different characters. One of the main characters is "O Monstro" ("The Monster"), a toy monster that helps children with problems by becoming a real monster for them. The first Monster's printed graphic novel was released in 2013 after a successful crowdfunding campaign and, in the following year, the book won the Troféu HQ Mix (most important Brazilian comic related award) in the category "Best Independent Publication". A Coala's comic strip called "Perfeição" ("Perfection") was also adapted in 2014 as a short animated movie by Jacob Frey and Markus Kranzler. ''Finding Dory'' is a 2016 American computer-animated comedy-drama adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. ''Coco'' is a 2017 American computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on an original idea by Lee Unkrich, it is directed by him and co-directed by Adrian Molina.
