The Porter (TV Series)
''The Porter'' is a Canadian television drama series which premiered on CBC Television on 21 February 2022. Created by Arnold Pinnock and Bruce Ramsay, the series is a co-production between CBC and BET+. The show was released to positive reviews and became the most nominated show at the 11th Canadian Screen Awards. The show was cancelled after one season, after BET+ decided to not back any future episodes. Premise The series depicts the history of Black Canadian and African-American men who worked as Pullman porters in the period following World War I, leading to the 1925 creation of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters as the first Black-led labour union. Arnold Pinnock
Arnold Pinnock (born 1967) is a Canadian actor who is perhaps best known for his appearance as Paul Greebie, Casey's guidance counselor, in ''Life with Derek''. Pinnock was born in Birmingham, England. His career began with sketch comedy at Toronto's Second City Mainstage before he moved on to television and film. He created, wrote, starred in and produced the 2022 CBC and BET series '' The Porter'', about the railway sleeping car porters who created North America's first Black labour union, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Mouna Traoré
Mouna Traoré (born May 4, 1995) is a Canadian actress and filmmaker. She is known for her performances in a variety of television series, such as Global TV's ''Rookie Blue'' (2012), CBC's ''Murdoch Mysteries'' (2015–2018), and Netflix's ''The Umbrella Academy'' (2020). Her film work includes the 2017 films '' The Drop In'', which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and ''Brown Girl Begins'', directed by Sharon Lewis.
