The Point Luas Stop
The Point ( ga, Iosta na Rinne) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2009 as the terminus of an extension of the Red Line. Named after the nearby Point Depot, it serves the surrounding Point Village area and is situated in the middle of a plaza at the end of Mayor Street Upper, near Point Square, Host Point Student accommodation, and the 3Arena. The stop has three platforms. This allows up to three trams to dwell there during events at the 3Arena, in order to prepare for the influx of passengers leaving the venue at the end of the event. On average, trams depart every 10 minutes towards the city centre and Tallaght or Saggart. Immediately to the west of the stop, the two most northern tracks merge into one and the two remaining tracks cross over at a switch diamond. Trams continue westward along Mayor Street Upper. Red Line (Luas)
The Red Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Red Line runs in an east–west direction through the city centre, north of the River Liffey, before travelling southwest to Tallaght, with a fork to Citywest and Saggart. The Red Line opened on 26 September 2004. History Construction work began in March 2001 on the Tallaght to Connolly line, as well as the Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green section of the second line, with Gio. Ansaldo & C., Ansaldo of Italy and MVM of Australia getting the contract to build the system. The St. Stephen's Green to Dublin Airport section was dropped before construction began, as it was decided to serve the area by a Dublin Metro, metro instead. Transdev, formerly Veolia Transdev, is a French-based international private-sector company which operates public transport. It has operations in 17 countries and territories as of November 2020. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. The system now has 67 stations and of revenue track, which in 2018 carried 41.8 million passengers, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2017. Luas is operated by Transdev, under tender from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). Spencer Dock Luas Stop
Spencer Dock ( ga, Duga Spencer) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2009 as one of four stops on an extension of the Red Line through the docklands to The Point. The stop is located on a section of Mayor Street Upper which is closed to other traffic, just next to Central Square. It provides access to many of the developments in the area, including Convention Centre Dublin. It is located 200m east of the Spencer Dock Bridge which carries the LUAS over the Royal Canal. Tallaght Luas Stop
Tallaght (; ga, Tamhlacht) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as the terminus of the Red Line. The stop is located on a section of reserved track at the side of the road the populous suburb of Tallaght, opposite The Square Shopping Centre. It also provides access to Tallaght Stadium, the offices of South Dublin County Council, and the local campus of the Technological University Dublin. The stop has two edge platforms, and trams reverse using a double crossover immediately beyond the stop. Thus, one platform is used for arrivals and one for departures. Upon leaving Tallaght, trams travel along their own right of way, rounding a corner where the tracks are straddled by buildings. They then head north on their way to Connolly or The Point. Saggart Luas Stop
Saggart ( ga, Teach Sagard) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2011 as the terminus of an extension of the Red Line. The stop is located on a section of reserved track next to Citywest Drive near Saggart village in south-west Dublin. It is also close to Whitechurch and Baldonnel. To the north of the stop, a large area has been set aside for a development called Parklands, which is planned to include over 150 houses, two new schools, retail and a large sports area. As of 2020, development has begun onsite. Saggart has a similar layout to Tallaght Luas stop: there are two edge platforms, beyond which the track continues for around 80m where there is a double crossover. Point Depot
The Point Theatre (sometimes referred to as the Point Depot or simply as the Point) was a concert and events venue in Dublin, Ireland, that operated from 1988 to 2007, visited by in excess of 2 million people. It was located on the North Wall Quay of the River Liffey, amongst the Dublin Docklands. The Point was closed in the middle of 2007 for a major redevelopment and underwent a rebranding as The O2 in July 2008. Prior to the redevelopment, the seated capacity was 6,300; the rebranded O2 has a fully seated only capacity of 9,000. Following the acquisition of O2 Ireland by 3 Ireland, it was renamed in September 2014 as the 3Arena. Point Village
The Point Village is a commercial and residential development in the North Wall area of Dublin, Ireland. The elements of the €800 million development completed to date include offices and residential and hotel accommodation, a small shopping centre, a cinema, a museum and a five-level underground car park. The development ran into a number of problems and was taken over by NAMA in April 2013. 3Arena
The 3Arena (originally The O2) is an indoor amphitheatre located at North Wall Quay in the Dublin Docklands in Dublin, Ireland. The venue opened as The O2 on 16 December 2008. It was built on the site of the former Point Theatre, a smaller music venue which operated from 1988 to 2007, retaining only some of the outer facade. The Point Theatre was branded as "The Point Depot", in recognition of its original role as a railway goods handling station.
