''The Playgirls and the Vampire'' ( it, L'ultima preda del vampiro, lit=The Vampire's Last Prey) is a 1960 Italian horror film directed and written by Piero Regnoli. Plot outline A feckless troupe of exotic dancers and their piano player led by a bumbling manager stumble upon a castle after encountering a ferocious storm. The castle, inhabited by Count Gabor, his assistant, and a vampire, is little refuge for the traveling showgirls as they slowly fall under the spell of the undead demon. Vera, one of the reluctant dancers and the living doppelgänger of the vampire's dead wife, Margherita Kernassy—who has been dead nearly 200 years—becomes the object of affection for Count Gabor and the vampire. Piero Regnoli
Piero Regnoli (1921–2001) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. Career Born in 1921, Regnoli worked in the film industry between 1953 and 1991 where he wrote over 110 screenplays and directed 11 films. Regnoli's work ranged from sword-and-sandal films, westerns, horror and sexy comedies. His final film where he was officially credited as a director was ''La principessa sul pisello'' in 1976. Regnoli did uncredited direction on the 1986 melodrama ''Giuro che ti amo'' starring Nino D'Angelo. Regnoli was also employed as the film critic for the Vatican's daily newspaper ''L'Osservatore Romano''. Regnoli died in 2001. Renato Polselli
Renato Polselli (1922–2006) was an Italian film director and writer. Born in Arce, Lazio on 26 February 1922, Polselli began directing films in Italy in the early 1950s. He is best known for directing and writing the film ''The Vampire and the Ballerina''. Polselli's film work since the 1970s was sporadic, and included work on horror film productions that remained unfinished. His later film works were often pornography made with his frequent collaborator Bruno Vanni. Polselli died in Italy on 1 October 2006. Style In his book on Italian horror film directors, Louis Paul described Polselli as being "a bit of a mystery" due to the rarity of films surrounding his work and that his work in horror films were "some of the most original, hallucinatory and sleazy, low-budget productions in the genre".
