The Patriot And The Spy
''The Patriot and the Spy'' is a 1915 American silent drama film, directed by Jack Harvey. It stars James Cruze, Marguerite Snow, and Alphonse Ethier. Prints and/or fragments were found in the Dawson Film Find in 1978. Plot A young couple, Pietro (James Cruze) and Blanchette (Marguerite Snow), get married as a jilted suitor, Johannes (Alphonse Ethier) looks on, and bides his time while plotting revenge. The couple live happily and are overjoyed at two young children they've sired. When Pietro rushes to save one of his children from being hit by a car, he suffers a crushed foot, when the car runs over it. The injury cripples him for life, which makes him ineligible for military service when war is declared. Spurned suitor Johannes enlists, and taunts Pietro for his shortcomings. Johannes proves to be an excellent military man, and is promoted to sergeant. During a battle Johannes is captured and imprisoned, but then agrees to become a spy for the enemy. Jack Harvey (actor And Director)
Jack Harvey (born John Joseph Harvey; September 16, 1881 – November 9, 1954) was an American film actor, director and screenwriter, noted for his short films of the silent period. Among his directed films are '' A Dog's Love'' (1914) (the first of many collaborations with Shep, a well-trained Collie of the Thanhouser Company), ''When Fate Rebelled'' (1915), '' Fairy Fern Seed'' (1915), '' Kaiser's Finish'' (1918) and his last film ''No Babies Wanted'' (1928), accredited as John J. Harvey. He continued to act, but most of his roles after the 1920s were very minor and uncredited in films such as ''Cardinal Richelieu'' (1935) and ''Anchors Aweigh'' (1945). He also continued to write for films until his death in 1954, the last of which was '' City Beneath the Sea'' (1953). James Cruze
James Cruze (born James Cruze Bosen; March 27, 1884 – August 3, 1942) was a silent film actor and film director. Early years Cruze's middle name came from the battle of Vera Cruz. He was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but did not practice the religion after his teenage years. Very little is certain about his childhood and teen years because he told a different story at every interview he granted. Career Cruze acted in, directed and or produced over 100 films mainly during the silent film era. His first known acting job was at Lubin Manufacturing Company in 1910. He started at Thanhouser Company in 1911 with ''She'' (1911) which is where the majority of his body of work was produced, much of it as the leading man. After leaving Thanhouser in 1916, he worked for several other companies as director and producer, primarily for Paramount Pictures, from 1918 to 1938.
