''The New Man'' ( sv, Den nya människan; fi, Uusi ihminen) is a 2007 Swedish-Finnish drama film directed by Klaus Härö. Plot The film portrays Gertrude, a strong and exuberant 17-year-old and her collision with the Swedish welfare state in the early 1950s. It deals with the compulsory sterilisation in Sweden affecting 63,000 people between 1934 and 1976. On a flight of fancy, Lawrence insists on engaging a valet, rather than the more economical alternative of a mere boot-boy. Despite not being consulted, and not being given a chance to manage the household budget, Elizabeth has to bear the cost out of her moderate dowry. ''Large Head (The New Man)'' (German: ''Großer Kopf (Der Neue Mensch)'') was a sculpture made by German artist Otto Freundlich in 1912 and thought to have been destroyed in around 1941. It is now considered to be one of the most important Modern sculpture, modernist sculptures made in Germany before the First World War. Degenerate art Freundlich was born into a Jewish family in Prussia in 1878. He decided to become an artist and moved to Paris in 1908, but he made the sculpture in Hamburg in 1912 during one of his periodic trips back to Germany. The work was made in plaster and stood tall. Freundlich was influenced by Cubism and possibly also Auguste Rodin, Rodin's 1890s bronze sculpture, ''Monumental Head of Iris'', as well as "primitive" tribal art, like the masks in Picasso's 1907 painting ''Les Demoiselles d'Avignon''.
