The Mystery Of Edwin Drood (musical)
''The Mystery of Edwin Drood'' (or simply ''Drood'') is a musical theatre, musical based on the The Mystery of Edwin Drood, unfinished Charles Dickens novel. Written by Rupert Holmes, the show was the first ever Broadway musical with multiple endings (determined by audience vote). The musical won five Tony Awards out of eleven nominations, including Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Musical. Holmes received Tony awards for Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Tony Award for Best Original Score, Best Original Score. The musical debuted as part of the New York Shakespeare Festival in August 1985, and following revision, transferred to Broadway, where it ran until May 1987. Two national tours and production in London's West End theatre, West End followed. The Roundabout Theatre Company revived the musical in 2012. David Goldstein (born February 24, 1947), better known as Rupert Holmes, is a British-American composer, singer-songwriter, dramatist and author. He is widely known for the hit singles "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" (1979) and " Him" (1980). The Drifters
The Drifters are several American doo-wop and R&B/Soul music, soul vocal groups. They were originally formed as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter, formerly the lead tenor of Billy Ward and his Dominoes in 1953. The second group of Drifters, formed in 1959 and led by Ben E. King, were originally an up-and-coming group named The Five Crowns. After 1965 members drifted in and out of both groups and many of these formed other groups of Drifters as well. Several groups of Drifters can trace roots back to these original groups, but contain few if any original members. Joseph Papp (born Joseph Papirofsky; June 22, 1921 – October 31, 1991) was an American theatrical producer and director. He established The Public Theater in what had been the Astor Library Building in Lower Manhattan. There Papp created a year-round producing home to focus on new plays and musicals.
