The Minister's Friend
''The Minister's Friend'' (Hungarian: ''A miniszter barátja'') is a 1939 Hungarian comedy film directed by Viktor Bánky and starring Antal Páger, Júlia Komár, Mici Erdélyi and Béla Mihályffi.Juhász p.122 It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director Imre Sörés. Synopsis A chemical engineer is struggling to find work and is employed a shop assistant. Things change dramatically when he is mistakenly believed to a friend of a government minister. Viktor Bánky
Viktor Bánky (17 January 1899 – 13 March 1967) was a Hungary, Hungarian film editor and film director, director. He was the brother of the actress Vilma Bánky who enjoyed Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood stardom in the 1920s. He was initially employed in the Cinema of Germany, German film industry, then the largest in Europe, before returning to Budapest in 1933 when new restrictions made it harder for Hungarians to work in Berlin. Attributing his initial struggles to gain employment in the Hungarian film industry to discrimination against non-Jews by Hungarian Jewish, Jewish producers and directors such as Joe Pasternak and Ernö Gál he increasingly aligned with the populism, populist Hungarian nationalist movement. He was involved in producing antisemitic films and the expulsion of Jews from filmmaking. György Kürthy
György Kürthy (24 February 1882 – 27 December 1972) was a Hungarian actor, scenographer, writer and director of the theatre. Biography He maturated in Budapest, then moved to Munich where he learnt architecture. His first theatrical performance was in 1905 at Thália Theatre. He was a member of the National Theatre between 1906 and 1935. He worked as a chief director in Kolozsvár (today Cluj-Napoca, Romania) in the theatre year 1908-1909. Between 1916 and 1923 he taught at Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest. During the next year he played at National Theatre of Pécs. Then he moved back to the capital, and was a professor at the Hungarian University of Arts and Design from 1927 to 1930. In the following year he was the director of National Theatre of Szeged.
