Mercenary is an adjective meaning "motivated by private gain". It is also a noun: a mercenary is a person primarily concerned with making money at the expense of ethics, most often used to refer to a soldier who fights for hire. Mercenary
A mercenary, sometimes also known as a soldier of fortune or hired gun, is a private individual, particularly a soldier, that joins a military conflict for personal profit, is otherwise an outsider to the conflict, and is not a member of any other official military. Mercenaries fight for money or other forms of payment rather than for political interests. Beginning in the 20th century, mercenaries have increasingly come to be seen as less entitled to protections by rules of war than non-mercenaries. The Geneva Conventions declare that mercenaries are not recognized as legitimate combatants and do not have to be granted the same legal protections as captured service personnel of the armed forces. In practice, whether or not a person is a mercenary may be a matter of degree, as financial and political interests may overlap. ''World in Flames'' is a board wargame designed by Harry Rowland and released in 1985 by the Australian Design Group. It is currently in its 8th edition, ''World in Flames - Collector's Edition'', each new edition featuring changes to the rules, maps and counters provided with the game. The game is a strategic-level recreation of both the European and Pacific theatres of World War II. The game begins with the German invasion of Poland, and contains rules determining when Soviet Union and the United States may choose to enter the conflict. Brave New World (Iron Maiden Album)
''Brave New World'' is the twelfth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 29 May 2000. It was their first studio release since the return of longtime lead singer Bruce Dickinson (who left in 1993) and guitarist Adrian Smith (who left in 1990) in 1999, as well as the band's first studio recording as a six-piece, as Janick Gers, who replaced Smith in 1990, remained with the band. The album artwork and title song are references to the novel of the same name written by Aldous Huxley. The upper half of the artwork was created by Derek Riggs, with the bottom half by digital artist Steve Stone. The songs "The Wicker Man" and "Out of the Silent Planet" were both released as singles. ''Sabotage/Live'' is a live album by John Cale. It was recorded at CBGB, New York on 13–16 June 1979, and released by SPY Records in December 1979. Release A studio version of "Mercenaries (Ready for War)" was released as a single in the US on 14 March 1980. The sleeve notes that on the B-Side the “vocal distortion (is) intended.” It was later reissued on CD by A&M Records Canada, and reissued again in the UK by Diesel Motor Records. The Diesel Motor CD reissue contains four extra tracks. The first three are originally from the '' Animal Justice'' EP, while the fourth was the B-side of the "Mercenaries (Ready for War)" single (the A-side, which was an entirely different recording than the live album version, was not included as the master tape is lost). However, this was included on the download available on the ZE Records website from 2011.
