The Marriage Market (1941 Film)
''The Marriage Market'' (Hungarian: ''Leányvásár'') is a 1941 Hungarian musical comedy film directed by Félix Podmaniczky and starring Zita Szeleczky, János Sárdy and Manyi Kiss.https://port.hu/adatlap/film/tv/leanyvasar-leanyvasar/movie-1470 An operetta film, it is an adaptation of the 1911 stage work of the same title composed by Victor Jacobi. It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director István Básthy. Synopsis János Gergely returns from Canada with his daughter Lucy. She is very interested in the folk traditions of Transylvania and the famous marriage market held there. Meanwhile, Peter is seeking a debt owed to him by Lucy's father. The two end up being wed in peasant costumes without realising that the marriage is valid. István Básthy (1896–1970) was a Hungarian art director. He designed the sets for more than fifty productions in the Hungarian film industry, frequently working alongside Sándor Iliszi. Kálmán Latabár
Kálmán Latabár (1902–1970) was a Hungarian comedian and film actor, perhaps the country's most popular comic in the post-war years. "Latyi" reached his peak popularity during the war years and in the early days of Hungarian television, doing stand-up comedy, operettas and musicals, and comic routines in variety shows. A talented song-and-dance man, he had impeccable comic timing. Later in life he made several successful tours in Western Europe, Israel and America, idolized by the émigré Hungarian community.
