''The Man in the High Castle'' is an American dystopian alternate history television series created for streaming service Amazon Prime Video, depicting a parallel universe where the Axis powers of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan rule the world after their victory in World War II. It was created by Frank Spotnitz and is produced by Amazon Studios, Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions (with Scott serving as executive producer), Headline Pictures, Electric Shepherd Productions, and Big Light Productions. The series is based on Philip K. Dick's 1962 novel of the same name. Stewart Mackinnon
Stewart Mackinnon is a Scottish film and television producer, founder and former CEO of Headline Pictures. He produced the film Quartet, the international Emmy winning television film Peter And Wendy, and the Amazon Studios series The Man in the High Castle. In 2020, he founded Circle Pictures. "Edelweiss" is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ''The Sound of Music''. It is named after the edelweiss, ''(Leontopodium nivale)'', a white flower found high in the Alps. The song was created for the 1959 Broadway production of ''The Sound of Music'', as a song for the character Captain Georg von Trapp. In the musical, Captain von Trapp and his family sing this song during the concert near the end of Act II. It is a statement of Austrian patriotism in the face of the pressure put upon him to join the navy of Nazi Germany following the ''Anschluss'' (Nazi annexation of their homeland). It is also Captain von Trapp's subliminal goodbye to his beloved homeland, using the flower as a symbol of his loyalty to Austria.
