The Magnificent Lie (1955 Film)
''The Magnificent Lie'' (Swedish: ''Den underbara lögnen'') is a 1955 Swedish drama film directed by Mike Road and starring Signe Hasso, William Langford, Road and Stig Olin.Krawcp.420 It was shot at the Centrumateljéerna Studios in Stockholm. The film's sets were designed by the art director Arthur Spjuth. It is based on the 1831 short story ''La Grande Bretèche'' by Honoré de Balzac and a further short story by Guy de Maupassant. Hasso produced the film, having recently return from a Hollywood, and cast her husband Langford opposite her. Synopsis On the night before her wedding a young prospective bride opens a book of short stories and witnesses two nineteenth century tales of love and tragedy. Mike Road
Mike Road (born Milton Brustin;The Boston Advertiser, June 29, 1958 March 18, 1918 – April 14, 2013) was an American voice actor and Warner Bros. television series contract player whose television career dates back to the 1950s and in films to the 1940s. Biography Road was born in Malden in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He got his start as an actor in school plays while in Malden High School, which led to him joining a theatre troupe in Boston. His Broadway debut came in the late 1930s in the short-lived play ''Doodle Dandy of the U.S.A.'' He supported himself by doing odd jobs such as usher, waiter, truck driver, delivery man and sign painter. Road had a role in the play ''The Moonvine''. His film career had also begun by this time. Between 1943 and 1946, he appeared in ''Gildersleeve on Broadway'', ''Tender Comrade'', ''Music in Manhattan'', ''Heavenly Days'' and several other motion pictures. Naima Wifstrand
Naima Wifstrand (; 4 September 1890 – 23 October 1968) was a Swedish film actress, operetta singer, troubadour, director and composer. In her later years, she was cast in several supporting roles in Ingmar Bergman films. Biography Born Siri Naima Matilda Wifstrand in Stockholm in 1890, she was raised by her mother in Fleminggatan. Wifstrand never trained acting but learned the art thoroughly when she in 1905 joined the Anna Lundberg Theatre Company, a well reputed and respected theatre company in Sweden at the time. She travelled with them for a number of years, appearing in small parts and in extra parts. This eventually led her to small parts at theatres in Helsinki and around Stockholm. But at this time Wifstrand did not have her mind set on acting, instead she sought to be a singer.
