The Lucky Ones (Willie P. Bennett Album)
''The Lucky Ones'' was the title of both the fourth and fifth albums released by Canadian singer-songwriter Willie P. Bennett, his only releases in the 1980s. Though the albums share the same title, they are completely different recordings, and mostly of different compositions. The two albums have only three compositions in common: "The Lucky Ones", "Reckless Baby" and "Patience of a Working Man". Bennett self-released the first ''Lucky Ones'' album on cassette only in 1985. This album featured a solo acoustic side co-produced with Paul Trotter, and a second side backed with a band, including guitarist Colin Linden, who co-produced Side B with Danny Greenspoon and Willie. A substantially different album, produced by Danny Greenspoon and featuring only a few of the same songs but entirely different recordings was released by Duke Street Records in 1989 (LP: DSR-31059, CD: DSRD 31059, cassette DSRC 31059). Prairie Oyster
Prairie Oyster was a Canadian country music group from Toronto, Ontario. They were named Country Group or Duo of the year six times by both the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) and the Juno Awards. The band also won the Bud Country Fans' Choice Award from the CCMA in 1994. They have four No. 1 country singles in Canada, with an additional 12 singles reaching the Canadian Country Top 10. Eight of their albums have been certified gold or platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association, including the 1992 CCMA Album of the Year '' Everybody Knows''. Lenny Solomon (born 28 September 1952) is a Canadian jazz, pop, and classical violinist and composer. An active studio musician, he has performed on hundreds of recordings and soundtracks, He has also recorded two of his own jazz albums: ''After You've Gone'' and ''The Gershwin Sessions''. He has appeared as a guest soloist with a number of orchestras, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and has served as concertmaster for a variety of theatrical entertainments. Colleen Peterson
Colleen Susan Peterson (November 14, 1950 – October 9, 1996) was a Canadian country and folk singer, who performed both as a solo artist and as a member of the band Quartette. Career Peterson began performing in coffeehouses in Ottawa in 1966. She won an RPM Gold Leaf Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1967 and, in 1968, joined Bruce Cockburn, David Wiffen, Richard Patterson and Dennis Pendrith in a later version of the folk band 3's a Crowd. Mandolin
A mandolin ( it, mandolino ; literally "small mandola") is a stringed musical instrument in the lute family and is generally plucked with a pick. It most commonly has four courses of doubled strings tuned in unison, thus giving a total of 8 strings, although five (10 strings) and six (12 strings) course versions also exist. There are of course different types of strings that can be used, metal strings are the main ones since they are the cheapest and easiest to make. The pedal steel guitar is a console-type of steel guitar with pedals and knee levers that change the pitch of certain strings to enable playing more varied and complex music than any previous steel guitar design. Like all steel guitars, it can play unlimited glissandi (sliding notes) and deep vibrati—characteristics it shares with the human voice. Pedal steel is most commonly associated with American country music and Hawaiian music. Pedals were added to a lap steel guitar in 1940, allowing the performer to play a major scale without moving the bar and also to push the pedals while striking a chord, making passing notes slur or bend up into harmony with existing notes. Nashville Tuning (high Strung)
Nashville or high-strung tuning refers to the practice of replacing the wound E, A, D and G strings on a six-string guitar with lighter gauge strings to allow tuning an octave higher than standard. This is usually achieved by using one string from each of the six courses of a twelve-string set, using the higher string for those courses tuned in octaves. The Pink Floyd song " Hey You" from the album ''The Wall'' and the Kansas song "Dust in the Wind" from their ''Point of Know Return'' album are notable for using this form of guitar tuning.
