The Long And The Short And The Tall (film)
''The Long and the Short and the Tall'' (released as ''Jungle Fighters'' in the US and Canada) is a 1961 British war film directed by Leslie Norman and starring Richard Todd, Laurence Harvey and Richard Harris. The film, which is based on a 1959 play with the same name, by Willis Hall, takes place in 1942 during the Malayan Campaign. The title comes from the second line of the First World War song "Bless 'Em All", which became very popular during the Second World War following recordings from singers such as Vera Lynn. Plot During the Japanese invasion of Burma in 1942, a seven-strong British sonic deception unit on a short jungle exercise hides from the rain in a hut at an abandoned tin mine. "Bless 'Em All", also known as "The Long and the Short and the Tall" and "Fuck 'Em All", is a war song. The words have been credited to Fred Godfrey in 1917 set to music composed by Robert Kewley, however, early versions of the song may have existed amongst British military personnel in the 1880s in India. It was first recorded by George Formby, Jr. in 1940, and it has been covered by a number of other artists including Gracie Fields and Vera Lynn. It served as a patriotic song during the Second World War. History The origin of the song is not entirely clear. Peter O'Toole

''The Dam Busters'' is a 1955 British epic war film starring Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave. It was directed by Michael Anderson. The film recreates the true story of Operation Chastise when in 1943 the RAF's 617 Squadron attacked the Möhne, Eder, and Sorpe dams in Nazi Germany with Barnes Wallis's ''bouncing bomb''. Kenji Takaki (10 March 1894 – 5 May 1984) was a merchant seaman and actor in both the theatre and cinema. He was of Japanese descent and played small roles in a number of mainly British films as well as being a character extra in others. Life Kenji Takaki, also known as Kengi or Genji, was born in Ehime Ken, Japan, on the island of Shikoku. In 1906 he arrived at Liverpool as a passenger on board the a liner of the White Star Line from the United States in search of a better life.
