Maurits Binger
Maurits Binger (5 April 1868 – 9 April 1923) was a Dutch film director, producer and screenwriter of the silent era. He directed 39 films between 1913 and 1922 and is considered one of the pioneers of fictional films in the Netherlands. Binger's studio and base of operations was in Haarlem, North Holland. Between 1919 and 1923 he was managing director of Anglo-Hollandia an attempt to break into the larger British market. There is a film institute in the Netherlands in his name. He is sometimes referred to as Maurice Binger. Eliot Stannard
Eliot Stannard (1 March 1888 – 21 November 1944) was an English screenwriter and director. He was the son of civil engineer Arthur Stannard and Yorkshire-born novelist Henrietta Eliza Vaughan Palmer. Stannard wrote the screenplay for more than 80 films between 1914 and 1933, including eight films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He also directed five films. During the early 1920s, he worked on most of the screenplays for the Ideal Film Company, one of Britain's leading silent film studios. David Whitelaw
David Whitelaw (1875–1970) British writer, editor and illustrator. Life and work David Whitelaw was born in Holloway, Islington, then still in Middlesex, to David Whitelaw and Hannah Baxter. Both of his parents died during his infancy and he and his elder brother Stephen (1873 - 1936) were raised by their grandparents, Theodore and Eliza Baxter, members of the North London branch of the Sandemanian church. After brief spells in New York City and Paris in the 1890s, Whitelaw returned to London to work for various Fleet Street newspapers as an illustrator and journalist, later becoming editor of The London Magazine and The Premier Magazine. Anglo-Hollandia
Anglo-Hollandia was a British-Dutch film production company which operated between 1919 and 1923 during the silent film era. It had its roots in the existing Dutch company Hollandia Films and attempted to produce films with appeal to both Britain and the Netherlands. Background Hollandia was based in the city of Haarlem and was the only Dutch producer of significant scale during the era. It had operated since 1912 but following the First World War it felt constrained by the limits of the relatively small Dutch market and saw the move as a means to break into the much larger British market. The scheme was driven by the company's managing director Maurits Binger. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Heather Thatcher (3 September 1896 – 15 January 1987) was an English actress in theatre and films. Dancer By 1922, Thatcher was a dancer. She was especially noted for her interpretation of an Egyptian harem dance. Her exotic clothes were designed in Russia. They featured stencil slits in the waist, trouserettes and sleeves. Her attire was billed as the boldest costume ever shown in Britain. English theatre Thatcher played the feminine lead in London stage productions such as ''Oh Daddy'' and ''Warm Corner''.
