The Letter (Box Tops Song)
"The Letter" is a song written by Wayne Carson that was first recorded by the American rock band the Box Tops in 1967. It was the group's first and biggest record chart hit, reaching number one in the United States and Canada. It was also an international success and placed in the top ten in several other countries. The Box Tops lead vocalist Alex Chilton sang "The Letter" in a gruff blue-eyed soul style. The song launched Chilton's career and inspired numerous cover versions. English rock and soul singer Joe Cocker's 1970 rendition became his first top ten single in the U.S.; several other artists have recorded versions which also reached the record charts. Davichi () is a South Korean pop duo formed in 2008. The duo consists of vocalists Lee Hae-ri and Kang Min-kyung. Their name, "Davichi", is derived from the Korean phrase "shining over everything" ( 다 비치). The duo has released three studio albums and six extended plays to date, and featured on several soundtracks for television dramas such as ''Big'' (2012), '' Iris II'' (2013), ''It's Okay, That's Love'' (2014), '' Descendants of the Sun'' (2016) and '' Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo'' (2016). The Letter (opera)
''The Letter'' is an opera by composer Paul Moravec and librettist Terry Teachout. It was commissioned by the Santa Fe Opera and was premiered there on 25 July 2009. The opera is based on ''The Letter (play), The Letter'', a 1927 play adapted by W. Somerset Maugham from one of his short stories. The play has been filmed twice. The first version, called ''The Letter (1929 film), The Letter'', was made in 1929 and starred Jeanne Eagels. The better-known 1940 version, also called ''The Letter (1940 film), The Letter'', starred Bette Davis and Herbert Marshall and was directed by William Wyler. The inspiration for Maugham's story and his subsequent play came from a Ethel Proudlock case, real-life event which took place in Kuala Lumpur in Federated Malay States, Malaya in April 1911. "The Letter" is the third single by the band Hoobastank from their fourth studio album, '' Fornever'' (2009), released in the United States on January 27, 2009, and on June 19, 2009, in Australia. It is a duet version with Melbourne-based singer Vanessa Amorosi. Hoobastank singer Doug Robb said they want to release "The Letter" in many countries with different female artists.
