''The Letter'' is a 1959 concept album by American vocalist Judy Garland arranged by Gordon Jenkins. Chronicling a relationship, the album features John Ireland. Reception The Allmusic review by John Bush awarded the album three stars and said "Jenkins' ambitious concept was written well and executed perfectly, and no one was better than Garland for a dramatic romantic role encompassing hope and humor...''The Letter'' suffers, as all but the best concept albums do. Ireland is no match for Garland...and the few audio concepts on display tend toward gimmicks. Judy Garland
Judy Garland (born Frances Ethel Gumm; June 10, 1922June 22, 1969) was an American actress and singer. ''Garland at the Grove'' is a 1959 live album by American vocalist Judy Garland accompanied by Freddy Martin and his Orchestra. The album was recorded at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Reception ''Garland at the Grove'' preceded Garland's famous run and landmark recording at Carnegie Hall by three years. ''That's Entertainment!'' is a 1960 album by the American vocalist Judy Garland arranged by Jack Marshall and Conrad Salinger. Garland turned to her former MGM arranger Conrad Salinger for four full orchestra-backed songs, including the title track, “I’ve Confessed to the Breeze” from '' No, No, Nanette '' and ”Alone Together” which was selected for '' The Band Wagon '' but not ultimately used in the film. Gordon Hill Jenkins (May 12, 1910 – May 1, 1984) was an American arranger, composer, and pianist who was influential in popular music in the 1940s and 1950s. Jenkins worked with The Andrews Sisters, Johnny Cash, The Weavers, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Harry Nilsson, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald. John Benjamin Ireland (January 30, 1914 – March 21, 1992) was a Canadian actor. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in ''All the King's Men'' (1949), making him the first Vancouver-born actor to receive an Oscar nomination. Charles LaVere Johnson, better known as Charlie LaVere (July 18, 1910, Salina, Kansas - April 28, 1983, Ramona, California) was an American jazz pianist, vocalist, bandleader, and composer.
