''The Letter'' () is a 1997 South Korean film starring Choi Jin-sil and Park Shin-yang. Story A happily married couple see only good days ahead of them; but the husband discovers that he is dying of cancer. Heartbroken at the possibility of leaving his wife behind, he proceeds to write love letters aimed at consoling his wife. Lee Jung-gook (born August 20, 1957) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Lee's feature debut ''Song of Resurrection'' (1990) was banned as its plot deals with the 1980 Gwangju Uprising. He won critical acclaim for his second feature ''The Story of Two Women'' (1994) by winning numerous awards at the 32nd Grand Bell Awards, including Best Film, Best New Director and Best New Actress, and Best New Director at the 14th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards in 1994. Choi Jin-sil
Choi Jin-Sil (December 24, 1968 – October 2, 2008) was a South Korean actress. She was considered one of the best actresses in South Korea, nicknamed "The Nation's Actress". She played leading roles in 18 films and 20 television dramas, appeared in 140 commercials and won the 33rd Grand Bell Award for Best Actress. She committed suicide by hanging on October 2, 2008, at her home in Seoul. Early years Choi was born as the first child to her parents Choi Guk-Hyeon and Jeong Ok-Suk on December 24, 1968, in Seoul. Her mother separated from her father in 1985 and divorced him in 1998. She had a younger brother, Choi Jin-young, who was an actor and singer. Park Shin-yang
Park Shin-yang (; born November 1, 1968) is a South Korean actor. He majored in acting at Dongguk University in South Korea and studied at the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School in Russia. From 1996 he won a number of acting awards in South Korea. Career A graduate of Dongguk University and the Shevkin Theater School in Russia, Park debuted in the drama ''Yuri'' in 1996. He became famous after appearing in the hit melodramas '' The Letter'' (1997) and ''A Promise'' (1998). Park earned several Best Actor prizes for his role in ''A Promise''. In the early 2000s, Park continued to appear in major films, such as the gangster comedy, ''Hi! Dharma!'' as well as heist thriller, '' The Big Swindle''. In 2004, he gained wide recognition as one of South Korea's lead actors with the television series ''Lovers in Paris''. The Contact (1997 South Korean Film)
''The Contact'' () is a 1997 South Korean romance film directed by Chang Yoon-hyun. Starring Han Suk-kyu and Jeon Do-yeon, it was the second biggest-grossing Korean film of 1997 with 674,933 admissions, and was awarded the Grand Bell Awards for best picture. Plot One day, radio DJ Dong-hyeon (Han Suk-kyu) receives an anonymous package containing a Velvet Underground record. Dong-hyeon hopes that the record was sent by his former lover. He decides to play the song ''Pale Blue Eyes'' off of that record. At the same time, a home shopping telemarketer, Soo-hyeon (Jeon Do-yeon) listens to the radio program while driving her car. The next day, Soo-hyeon makes a request through the internet for Dong-hyeon to play the song again. Dong-hyeon then contacts Soo-hyeon, hoping she is his former girlfriend or someone he knows. The Letter (2004 Film)
''The Letter'' ( th, เดอะเลตเตอร์ จดหมายรัก or ''Jod mai rak'', literally "love letter") is a 2004 romance-drama film directed by Pa-oon Chantarasiri. It is a remake of '' Pyeon ji'', a 1997 South Korean film by director Lee Jung-gook. Plot Dew (Anne Thongprasom) is a young computer programmer who meets Ton ( Attaporn Teemakorn) in Chiang Mai during her distant cousin's funeral. They immediately become attracted to each other and start to date each other over the phone. Back in Bangkok on Valentine's Day, Dew refuses to accompany her best friend, Ked, on a blind date because she is anxiously waiting for Ton's phone call. The consequence of this breaks Dew's heart as her friend is murdered by the blind date. Dew immediately leaves for Chiang Mai and finds comfort in Ton. The cinema of Thailand dates back to the early days of filmmaking, when King Chulalongkorn's 1897 visit to Bern, Switzerland was recorded by François-Henri Lavancy-Clarke. The film was then brought to Bangkok, where it was exhibited. This sparked more interest in film by the Thai Royal Family and local businessmen, who brought in filmmaking equipment and started to exhibit foreign films. By the 1920s, a local film industry was started and in the 1930s, the Thai film industry had its first "golden age", with a number of studios producing films.
