''The Legend and the Hero'' is a 2007 Chinese television series adapted from the 16th-century novel ''Fengshen Yanyi'' (also known as ''Investiture of the Gods'' or ''Creation of the Gods'') written by Xu Zhonglin and Lu Xixing. The first season started airing on CCTV-8 in February 2007. It was followed by a sequel, ''The Legend and the Hero 2'' in 2009. Yuanshi Tianzun
Yuanshi Tianzun (), the ''Celestial Venerable of the Primordial Beginning'' or the ''Primeval Lord of Heaven'', is one of the highest deities of Taoism. He is one of the Three Pure Ones () and is also known as the ''Jade Pure One'' (). He resides in the Heaven of Jade Purity. It is believed that he came into being at the beginning of the universe as a result of the merging of pure breaths. He then created Heaven and Earth. In Taoist mythology He once was the supreme administrator of Heaven, but later entrusted that task to his assistant ''Yuhuang'', the Jade Emperor. Mucha (), more commonly known as Muzha (), is a short form of Pratimokṣa in Chinese () and also a given name. Muzha as a Historical Figure Mucha was a historical figure in Han Buddhism during the era of Tang Empire and he was an apprentice of , along with Hui-an and Hui-yen. As Master Sangha was seen as an avatar of Avalokiteśvara (Kuan Yin), Mucha was later fictionalized as Kuan Yin's apprentice in the Zajü ''Journey to the West'' during the Great Yuan period. Erlang Shen
Erlang Shen () or Erlang, also known as the Lord of Sichuan (), is a Chinese god with a third truth-seeing eye in the middle of his forehead. Erlang Shen may be a deified version of several semi-mythical folk heroes who helped regulate China's torrential floods dating variously from the Qin, Sui, and Jin dynasties. A later Buddhist source identifies him as the second son of the Northern Heavenly King Vaishravana. In the Ming semi-mythical novels ''Creation of the Gods'' and ''Journey to the West'', Erlang Shen is the nephew of the Jade Emperor. In the former, he assists the Zhou army in defeating the Shang. Nezha
Nezha ( 哪吒) is a protection deity in Chinese folk religion. His official Taoist name is "Marshal of the Central Altar" (). He was then given the title "Third Lotus Prince" () after he became a deity. Origins According to Meir Shahar, Nezha is ultimately based on two figures from Hindu mythology.
