The Law (Bastiat Book)
''The Law'' () is an 1850 book by Frédéric Bastiat. It was written at Mugron two years after the third French Revolution and a few months before his death of tuberculosis at age 49. The essay was influenced by John Locke's '' Second Treatise on Government'' and in turn influenced Henry Hazlitt's ''Economics in One Lesson''. It is the work for which Bastiat is most famous, followed by the candlemaker's petition and the parable of the broken window. Overview In ''The Law'', Bastiat wrote that "each of us has a natural right – from God – to defend his person, his liberty, and his property." He described the State as a "substitution of a common force for individual forces" to defend this right. He contended that law becomes perverted when it is used to violate the rights of the individual, when it punishes one's right to defend himself against an effort of others to legislatively enact laws which plunder his wealth/property. A law is a universal principle that describes the fundamental nature of something, the universal properties and the relationships between things, or a description that purports to explain these principles and relationships. Catalyst is a superhero team appearing in comics published by Dark Horse Comics under the imprint Comics Greatest World. It first appeared in Comics' Greatest World: Golden City Week 4. Important members of the team have included Grace, Law, and Titan. Law (band)
Law was an American rock band, originating from Ohio, that was active throughout the 1970s. The band is particularly notable for its support by Roger Daltrey of The Who, as well as for its later inclusion of Roy Kenner, formerly of The James Gang, as lead vocalist. History Law started out as a trio in Youngstown, Ohio and were formed in February 1971 by Steve Lawrence, Steve Acker and Mickey Williamson. The name came from their initials from each of their surnames. They were originally a three piece power trio and their music was similar to that of ZZ Top. They were known as a "boogie band "performing blues-based hard driving rock. Within a year of their creation they were opening for national acts such as Bob Seger, Edgar Winter's White Trash and Alice Cooper. ''The Law'' is a single British television crime drama film, directed by Juliet May, that first broadcast on ITV at 21:00 on 12 June 2002. The film, billed as the UK's first attempt at a ''Law & Order''-style series, focuses on a single case first investigated by the police and then taken to court by the Crown Prosecution Service. Intended as the backdoor pilot for a potential series, ''The Law'' received poor reception from both viewers and critics alike; and subsequently a full series was never commissioned.
