The Lady In Scarlet
''The Lady in Scarlet'' is a 1935 American comedy drama film directed by Charles Lamont. It was made by Chesterfield Motion Pictures Corporation. Plot In New York City, Dr. Phillip Boyer purchases an antique clock at the premises of antique dealer Albert J. Sayre and arranges with salesman Arthur Pennyward for the clock to be delivered that afternoon. When Boyer departs, Sayre, who has been secretly watching, accuses his wife of taking a romantic interest in Boyer. About 5.30pm, Mrs. Sayre meets Dr. Boyer at a restaurant. Also present at the restaurant are Private Investigator Oliver Keith and his "girl friday" Ella Carey. When Boyer departs, Mrs. Sayre approaches Keith, asking for his help in finding out why a man has been watching the Sayre house and the reason for her husband's strange behavior. Keith escorts her home and together they find an unlocked front door and the dead body of Sayre in his office. Police are called and establish time of death at "about 5 o'clock." ... Charles Lamont
Charles Lamont (May 5, 1895 – September 11, 1993) was a prolific filmmaker, directing over 200 titles and producing and writing many others. He directed several Abbott and Costello comedies and many Ma and Pa Kettle films. Biography A California native, Lamont was born in San Francisco. Lamont came from a family of actors, being the fourth generation to be an actor. He appeared onstage while a teenager and started appearing in films from 1919. He worked as a prop man before becoming assistant director. Lamont started directing comedy shorts in 1922, including for Mack Sennett and Al Christie. Some of Lamont's earliest directorial jobs were silent short-subject comedies for Educational Pictures. One of the studio's popular series was ''Juvenile Comedies'', featuring the child actor Malcolm "Big Boy" Sebastian. James Bush (October 4, 1907 – April 9, 1987) was an American actor from the 1930s until the early 1950s. He appeared in more than 100 television shows and films, more than 80 of them being feature films. Early years The son of an actress, Bush moved to California with his mother and studied in a theatrical school and graduated from Los Angeles High School. Stage Bush first appeared on stage at age four. When he finished high school he began acting with the Morosco stock theater company.
