''The Kitchen Cabinet'' is a BBC Radio 4 programme hosted by Jay Rayner in which members of the public can put questions to a panel of experts about food and cooking. History The programme was first broadcast on 7 Feb 2012; it is in its 39th series. It is a Somethin' Else production. Format The show is a similar format to the long established ''Gardeners Question Time,'' coming from public venues at interesting 'food locations' in Britain in front of an audience. Jay Rayner
Jason Matthew Rayner (born 14 September 1966) is an English journalist and food critic. Early life Jason Matthew Rayner was born on 14 September 1966. He is the younger son of Desmond Rayner and journalist Claire Rayner. His family is Jewish. He was raised in the Sudbury Hill area of Harrow and attended the independent Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School. He studied politics at the University of Leeds, where he was editor of the ''Leeds Student'' newspaper, graduating in 1988. Career Rayner worked as a freelance journalist after graduating, writing for newspapers including ''The Observer'' and ''The Independent on Sunday''. Gardeners Question Time
''Gardeners' Question Time'' is a long-running BBC Radio 4 programme in which amateur gardeners can put questions to a panel of experts. History The first programme was broadcast in the North and Northern Ireland Home Service of the BBC at 22.15 on 9 April 1947, and came from the "singing room" at the Broadoak Hotel, Ashton-under-Lyne. Originally entitled ''How Does Your Garden Grow?'', it was inspired by the wartime Dig for Victory campaign. On the first panel were Bill Sowerbutts, Fred Loads, Tom Clark and Dr E.W. Sansome. Professor Alan Gemmell joined Loads and Sowerbutts in 1950 when their contrasting styles (Professor, Traditional Head gardener and Commercial Grower) added an entertainment element. Peter Barham
Peter Barham (born 1950) is emeritus professor of physics at the University of Bristol. He was visiting professor of Molecular Gastronomy at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Early life Peter Barham was born in 1950. He received his BSc from the University of Warwick, and his MSc and PhD from the University of Bristol. Career Peter Barham's research at the University of Bristol is concerned with polymer physics. He found ways to connect his research with his love of penguins, including the creation of silicon-based flipper bands which can be used for monitoring penguin populations. James 'Jocky' Petrie
James "Jocky" Petrie is a Scottish professional chef, best known for his work alongside chef Heston Blumenthal as head of development of the Experimental Kitchen at The Fat Duck, and as Group Executive Development Chef for Gordon Ramsay. Heston Marc Blumenthal (; born 27 May 1966) is a British celebrity chef, TV personality and food writer.
