''The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest'', known in Japan as ''The King of Fighters '98: Dream Match Never Ends (KOF '98)'', is a fighting game released by SNK for the Neo Geo (console), Neo Geo arcade and home consoles in 1998. It is the fifth game in ''The King of Fighters'' series. It was advertised by SNK as a "special edition" of the series, as it featured most of the characters who appeared in the previous games (from ''The King of Fighters '94, KOF '94'' to ''The King of Fighters '97, '97''). ''KOF '98'' was also released for the Neo-Geo CD in 1998 and for the PlayStation (console), PlayStation in Japan in 1999. A Dreamcast version titled ''The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999'' was released in 1999, featuring remade 3D backgrounds. Aicom was a Japanese video game developer, founded in 1988, possibly by a group that left Jaleco . Despite evidence to support this, the Sammy corporate website lists 1990 as the first year and that it was a subsidiary. It was bought by Sammy Industry in 1992. Their games include ''The Mafat Conspiracy'', ''Totally Rad'' and '' Vice: Project Doom'' on the Nintendo Entertainment System, '' Blaster Master Boy'' for the Game Boy and '' Pulstar'' for Neo Geo. Aicom broke off from Sammy in 1996, and with funding from SNK is a Japanese video game hardware and software company. Ryo Sakazaki
is a video game character developed for the 1992 fighting game ''Art of Fighting'' from SNK. His name is most often written in kana, although in some games, kanji is used to write parts of his name. In the series, Ryo is a skilled martial artist who practices his family's fighting style, Kyokugenryu Karate, acting as the top disciple, alongside his sister Yuri, his father/sensei Takuma and his best friend Robert Garcia. While ''Art of Fighting'' follows Ryo's journey as a warrior to protect those he loves, he is also a regular character in the crossover series ''The King of Fighters'', in which he participates in fighting tournaments. Joe Higashi
is a video game character created by SNK. He makes his first appearance in the fighting game '' Fatal Fury: King of Fighters'' as one of the three playable characters from the game. The ''Fatal Fury'' series introduce Joe as a goofy Muay Thai fighter who enters the King of Fighters tournament along with the Bogard brothers (Terry and Andy) in order to defeat the host Geese Howard to take revenge for the death of Terry and Andy's father. In the meantime, Joe also seeks to fight new rivals through the tournament and keep practicing Muay Thai.
