The Jets (British Band)
The Jets are a United Kingdom, British rockabilly musical ensemble, band, who had two charting singles in the early 1980s with "Yes Tonight Josephine" and "Love Makes the World Go Round". The songs reached numbers 25 and 21 respectively in the UK Single Chart, both tracks featured on their album, ''100% Cotton''. The band scored six other minor chart entries, but none managed to make the top 40. The Jets consists of three brothers, Bob Cotton (the eldest - double bass and lead vocals), Ray Cotton (the middle - lead Guitar and lead and backing vocals) and Tony Cotton (the youngest - drums and backing vocals). The band continues to tour the club and Rockabilly circuit both in the UK and abroad and is still producing albums. "Love Makes the World Go 'Round" is a popular music song written by Ollie Jones. The most popular version was recorded by Perry Como in 1958. He made two recordings that year, one on September 5 and one on September 16. "Party Doll" is a 1957 rock 'n' roll song written by Buddy Knox and Jimmy Bowen. Bronson, Fred (2003). ''The Billboard Book of #1 Hits'', 5th Edition (Billboard Publications), page 19. It was performed by Buddy Knox with the Rhythm Orchids, recorded in April 1956, and it became a hit on the Roulette label. Background Buddy Knox was a teenager living near Happy, Texas, in 1948 when he wrote the original verses of "Party Doll" behind a haystack on his family farm. While attending college at West Texas State University, he and two college friends, Jimmy Bowen and Don Lanier, traveled to Clovis, New Mexico, to record the song at the studio of Norman Petty. Knox's sister and two of her friends, Iraene Potts of Amarillo and a neighbor, sang background vocals on the song and a girl from the marching band of Clovis High School was recruited to play cymbal. The Honeydripper
"The Honeydripper (Parts 1 and 2)" is an R&B song by Joe Liggins and his Honeydrippers which topped the US Billboard R&B chart (at that time called the "Race Records" chart) for 18 weeks, from September 1945 to January 1946. History Liggins claimed to have written the tune around 1942, when playing piano in Los Angeles with a group called the California Rhythm Rascals. The tune was based around the traditional song "Shortnin' Bread".
