The Jailhouse Rock Cafe
The Jailhouse Rock Cafe was a club and concert venue located at 30 Mont-Royal West in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in a neighbourhood known as Le Plateau-Mont-Royal. The venue, founded by Jacques Corbo, opened in 1992 and established itself as an important centre for underground music, Underground art and culture in Montreal. History The site of the Jailhouse Rock Café initially housed, from 1920-1957, the Belmont Moving Picture Theatre. The building was then home to a Greek restaurant (1960-1983) and later, Bar La Terrasse (1987-1992) before the Jailhouse's opening. The venue was founded by Jacques Corbo. In late 1993, Corbo eventually sold the Jailhouse to employee Greg Kitzler along with Ted N. and Damian H. In 1994, Kitzler hired Domenic Castelli as the main booker for the venue. Tricky Woo
Tricky Woo was a Canadian garage punk band, based in Montreal, Quebec. The "classic lineup" of the band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Dickson, guitarist Adrian Popovich, bass guitarist Eric Larock and drummer Patrick Conan. Tricky Woo released music on Sonic Unyon, Estrus Records, TeePee Records, Triple X Records, Mag Wheel, Yeah Right! Records and Last Gang. Nada Surf is a New York City-based American alternative rock band formed in the 1990s, consisting of Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Ira Elliot (drums), Doug Gillard (guitar, backing vocals), and Daniel Lorca (bass, backing vocals). History 1990s Nada Surf was formed in 1992 by Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca. Calexico (band)
Calexico is a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana, Tex-Mex, indie rock band. The band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded a number of albums on Quarterstick Records, while their 2005 EP ''In the Reins'', recorded with Iron & Wine, reached the Billboard 200 album charts. Their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi, conjunto, cumbia, and tejano mixed with country, jazz, and post-rock. The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was an American three-piece rock band from New York City, formed in 1991. The group consisted of Judah Bauer on guitar, backing vocals, harmonica and occasional lead vocals, Russell Simins on drums and Jon Spencer on vocals, guitar and theremin. Head & Hands, also known as ''À Deux Mains'', is a nonprofit organization based in Montreal, Quebec. The organization was founded by Mark Early and Pat Crawshaw in 1970 with the goal of creating a safe drop-in space for youth. Though the centre was originally geared towards drug users, Head & Hands has expanded its services and promotes a holistic philosophy to community outreach. The centre, currently located in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, offers counseling, legal services, programs for young parents, sex education, a variety of workshops, and emergency food services. With 12 staff members and 350 volunteers, Head & Hands helps put on numerous events throughout the year, both informational and social events.
