The Island Of The Lost
''The Island of the Lost'' (German: ''Die Insel der Verschollenen'') is a 1921 German Silent film, silent science fiction film directed by Urban Gad and starring Alf Blütecher, Hanni Weisse and Erich Kaiser-Titz. It is a loose unauthorized adaptation of the 1896 novel ''The Island of Doctor Moreau'' by H. G. Wells. Author Wells was allegedly unaware that this unauthorized version of his novel existed. It was a common practice in the silent era for European filmmakers to produce unauthorized versions of famous works of literature, as evidenced by F. W. Murnau's ''Der Januskopf''(1920) (based upon Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Louis Stevenson's ''Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'') and ''Nosferatu'' (1922) (based upon Bram Stoker, Bram Stoker's ''Dracula (novel), Dracula''). Urban Gad
Peter Urban Bruun Gad (12 February 1879 – 26 December 1947) was a Danish film director, stage actor, screenwriter, and author. He directed 40 films between 1910 and 1927. His wife Asta Nielsen starred in 30 of his films, also in his début the film ''Afgrunden'' (''The Abyss'') from 1910. They moved to Germany in 1911 where Gad worked with Paul Davidson until 1922. His mother was the playwright Emma Gad. In 1873, the painter Paul Gauguin married his father's cousin, Mette-Sophie Gad. Between 1912 and 1918, Gad was married to actress Asta Nielsen. His films include a German-language adaptation of Gerhart Hauptmann's play ''The Assumption of Hannele'', which Gad directed in 1922.. Bram Stoker
Abraham Stoker (8 November 1847 – 20 April 1912) was an Irish author who is celebrated for his 1897 Gothic horror novel '' Dracula''. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Sir Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre, which Irving owned. In his early years, Stoker worked as a theatre critic for an Irish newspaper, and wrote stories as well as commentaries. He also enjoyed travelling, particularly to Cruden Bay where he set two of his novels. During another visit to the English coastal town of Whitby, Stoker drew inspiration for writing ''Dracula''. He died on 20 April 1912 due to locomotor ataxia and was cremated in north London. Since his death, his magnum opus ''Dracula'' has become one of the most well-known works in English literature, and the novel has been adapted for numerous films, short stories, and plays. Hermann Picha (20 March 1865 – 7 June 1936) was a German stage and film actor. Picha was extremely prolific, appearing in over 300 short and feature films during the silent and early sound eras. Louis Brody
Louis Brody (born Ludwig M'bebe Mpessa; 15 February 1896 – 11 February 1951) was a Cameroonian-born German film actor, musician and showfighter. Brody was born in Douala, in the German colony of Kamerun, now Cameroon. His career began in the 1920s after he moved to Germany and lasted uninterrupted throughout the Nazi regime till his death in 1951. Brody engaged also in political work in favour of Afro-Germans as part of the African Aid Organisation, established by and for Afro-Germans living in Germany. In 1938 he married a woman from Danzig.
