''The House of Three Girls'' (german: Das Dreimäderlhaus) is a 1958 Austrian-West German musical film directed by Ernst Marischka and starring Karlheinz Böhm, Rudolf Schock and Magda Schneider.Bock & Bergfelder p.252 It is based on the operetta ''Das Dreimäderlhaus''. The story had previously been made into the film ''Three Girls for Schubert'' in 1936. The film's sets were designed by the art director Fritz Jüptner-Jonstorff. Ernst Marischka
Ernst Marischka (2 January 1893 – 12 May 1963) was an Austrian screenwriter and film director. He wrote for more than 90 films between 1913 and 1962. He also directed 29 films between 1915 and 1962. He wrote and directed the Sissi trilogy - '' Sissi'' (1955), '' Sissi - The Young Empress'' (1956) and '' Sissi - Schicksalsjahre einer Kaiserin'' (1957). The films were based on the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. He was the brother of Hubert Marischka. He was named for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1946, for '' A Song to Remember'' (1945). Schwind's genius was lyrical—he drew inspiration from chivalry, folklore, and the songs of the people. Schwind died in Pöcking in Bavaria, and was buried in the Alter Südfriedhof in Munich. Life and career Moritz von Schwind received rudimentary training and spent a happy and carefree youth in Vienna. Helmuth Lohner (24 April 1933 – 23 June 2015) was an Austrian actor, theatre director, and from 1997 to 2006 director of the Theater in der Josefstadt. Early life Born in Vienna, Lohner initially trained as a commercial artist, while also taking private acting lessons. He made his acting début in 1952 at the municipal theatre in Baden bei Wien. He also appeared as operetta buffo at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. From 1953 to 1963 he appeared in various productions of the Theater in der Josefstadt, as well as making numerous film appearances. Johann Michael Vogl (August 10, 1768 – November 19, Michael Lorenz: ''Studien zum Schubertkreis'', Phil. Diss. Vienna, 2001 1840), was an Austrian baritone singer and composer. Though famous in his day, he is remembered mainly for his close professional relationship and friendship with composer Franz Schubert. Vogl was born in Steyr. As a young man he enrolled at the ''Gymnasium'' at Kremsmünster, where he studied languages, philosophy, and sang in several musical productions by his friend Franz Süßmayr (the same man who completed Mozart's ''Requiem''). In 1786 Vogl went to Vienna to study, and later to practice law. Johann Baptist Mayrhofer (22 October 17875 February 1836) was an Austrian poet and librettist. He is best known for his close friendship with the composer Franz Schubert. Biography Mayrhofer was born in Steyr, educated at Novitiate in St. Florian's Priory Upper Austria. In 1810 he began to study jurisprudence and theology at the University of Vienna, both of which courses he finished. He worked as a censor at the Zentral-Bücher-Revisions-Amt in Vienna. In 1814 he met the young composer Franz Schubert and his friends (Joseph von Spaun, Franz von Schober). From 1818-1821 he lived with Schubert in a one-room apartment in a house on Wipplingerstrasse 4. After Schubert moved out, he wrote the poem ''An Franz'' for him: Mayrhofer wrote a lot of lyric poetry and published it in 1824. Erich Kunz (20 May 1909 in Vienna – 8 September 1995 in Vienna) was an Austrian operatic baritone, particularly associated with the roles of Papageno and Beckmesser. Life and career Born in Vienna, Kunz was educated at the Vienna Music Academy where he was a student of Theo Lierhammer and Hans Duhan. He made his stage debut in Opava, as Osmin, in 1933. He then sang in Plauen (1936–37) and Breslau (1937–41). Anton (or Antonio) Diabelli (5 September 17818 April 1858) was an Austrian music publisher, editor and composer. Best known in his time as a publisher, he is most familiar today as the composer of the waltz on which Ludwig van Beethoven wrote his set of thirty-three ''Diabelli Variations''. Early life Diabelli was born in Mattsee near Salzburg, then in the Archbishopric of Salzburg. A musical child, he sang in the boys' choir at Salzburg Cathedral where he is believed to have taken music lessons with Michael Haydn. By the age of 19 Diabelli had already composed several important compositions including six masses.
