The House Of Hate
''The House of Hate'' is a 1918 American film serial directed by George B. Seitz, produced when many early film studios in America's first motion picture industry were based in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The serial was originally announced at fifteen episodes but due to its box office success was extended to twenty, at which time content involving German spies was interpolated into the murder mystery plot. A print of a condensed featurized version of ''The House of Hate'' from the collection of filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein is held in the Gosfilmofond film archive in Russia. Most of the propagandistic spy content is excised in the condensation, which does not include chapter divisions but does apparently include most of the content of episodes 1-4 as originally released, highlights from the middle chapters of the serial, and the complete finale including the extended flashback in which the masked villain's identity is revealed. Hudson Palisades
The Palisades, also called the New Jersey Palisades or the Hudson River Palisades, are a line of steep cliffs along the west side of the lower Hudson River in Northeastern New Jersey and Southeastern New York in the United States. The cliffs stretch north from Jersey City about 20 miles (32 km) to near Nyack, New York, and visible at Haverstraw, New York. They rise nearly vertically from near the edge of the river, and are about high at Weehawken, increasing gradually to high near their northern terminus. Chicago Board Of Censors
The Chicago Board of Censors was a film censorship committee based in Chicago that was founded in 1907 as the Police Censor Board, and operated until 1984. It was the first film censorship board in the United States. The board had great influence over the editing and distribution of many films. The city's censorship code was directly challenged and upheld by two U.S. Supreme Court cases called '' Times Film Corporation v. City of Chicago'', one in 1957 and one in 1961. Paul Wolfgang Panzerbeiter (November 3, 1872 – August 16, 1958), known professionally as Paul Panzer, was a German-American silent film actor. He appeared in more than 330 films between 1905 and 1952. Biography Panzer was born in Würzburg.Bavaria. His education included studying pharmacy at the University of Wurzburg and studying vocal music at the Conservatory of Wurzburg. He was a lieutenant in German's artillery reserves when he left there. Panzer's early work building sets and painting scenes for a New York City film studio developed his interest in the film industry. He also was involved with live theater, working for Augustin Daly both on stage and as stage manager. Panzer was best known for playing Koerner / Raymond Owen in '' The Perils of Pauline''. Louis Robert Wolheim (March 28, 1880 – February 18, 1931) was an American actor, of both stage and screen, whose rough physical appearance relegated him to roles mostly of thugs or villains in the movies, but whose talent allowed him to flourish on stage. His career was mostly contained during the silent era of the film industry, due to his untimely death at the age of 50 in 1931. Early life Born in New York City in 1880, he attended Cornell University, where he graduated with a degree in engineering. After graduation, he taught mathematics, including six years as an instructor at Cornell. He also worked as a mining engineer. Helene Chadwick (November 25, 1897 – September 4, 1940) was an American actress in silent and in early sound films. Early life and career Chadwick was born in the small town of Chadwicks, New York, which was named for her great-grandfather. Her parents were George W. Chadwick Jr. and Marie Louise Norton Chadwick. Her mother was a singer who performed on the stage and her father was a business man. She began making films for Pathé Pictures in Manhattan, New York. Her first film was ''The Challenge'' (1916), which was produced by Astra Film Corporation and released by Pathé. A director was impressed by Chadwicks's talent as an equestrian, thus she began acting as a western star but this did not continue with the exodus of film production from the east to the west coast. Floyd Buckley
Floyd Buckley (October 21, 1877 - November 14, 1956) was an American film, stage, and radio actor whose career began with Buffalo Bill and ended with Broadway. Born in Chatham, New York, Buckley attended St. John's Military Academy in Manlius, New York. He served in the Spanish–American War before he joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1899. He worked with the Office of War Information during World War II. He appeared in 15 films between 1914 and 1953. Besides acting, he worked as a stunt man and produced and directed films. He also acted in the theatrical short, "Be Kind to 'Aminals.'" During the 1930s, he was the voice of Popeye the Sailor on radio and was in the cast of ''Keeping Up with Wigglesworth''..
