''The House in Montevideo'' (german: Das Haus in Montevideo) is a 1951 West Germany, West German comedy film directed by Curt Goetz and Valérie von Martens and starring Goetz, von Martens, Albert Florath and Lia Eibenschütz. It is an adaptation of Goetz's 1945 comic play ''The House in Montevideo (play), The House in Montevideo''. Goetz and von Martens had frequently played the lead parts on the stage. The play was later adapted into another The House in Montevideo (1963 film), film of the same title in 1963. It was shot at the Göttingen Studios and location shooting, on location at Cuxhaven and the Uruguayan capital Montevideo. The film's sets were designed by the art director Emil Hasler. Curt Goetz
Curt Goetz (; 17 November 1888 – 12 September 1960), born Kurt Walter Götz, was a Swiss German writer, actor and film director. He was regarded as one of the most brilliant German comedy writers of his time. With his wife Valérie von Martens, he acted in his own plays and also filmed them. He was a distant relative of Irish writer George Bernard Shaw, to whom he was often compared. Life and work Goetz was born in Mainz, Germany the son of Swiss wine examiner Bernhard Götz and his German wife of Italian-French descent, Selma (born Rocco). His father died in 1890. Two-year-old Curt and his mother then moved to Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, where she managed a private clinic. In 1906 Goetz graduated from City High School in Halle, where he played Franz Moor in ''The Robbers'' by Schiller. Eckart Dux (born 19 December 1926) is a German actor and voice actor. Biography His father was an Insurance executive. He completed his training as an actor with Else Bongers in Berlin and made his stage debut in 1948 at the city's Renaissance Theatre. He then had numerous roles on the Berlin stage and in theatres in Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. He also had many roles as a character actor in film and television. Since 1949 Dux he has also been one of the longest active German-speaking voice actors, dubbing Hollywood films into German. In the 1950s and 1960s he was regularly the German voice of Audie Murphy.
