MC Breed
Eric Tyrone Breed (June 12, 1971 – November 22, 2008), better known as MC Breed, was an American rapper best known for his singles " Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'", which peaked at #66 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and "Gotta Get Mine" (featuring 2Pac), that made it to number 6 on the Hot Rap Singles. Career Born in Flint, Michigan, Breed launched his career in the Detroit hip-hop scene, and was one of the first nationally successful rappers to come out of this scene. Breed's first album was released with rap group DFC and was entitled '' MC Breed & DFC'' for independent record label, SDEG Records. His solo debut was 1992's '' 20 Below'', after which he released 1993's '' The New Breed''. G-Funk
G-funk, short for gangsta funk, is a sub-genre of gangsta rap that emerged from the West Coast scene in the late 1980s. The genre is heavily influenced by 1970s psychedelic funk (P-funk) sound of artists such as Parliament-Funkadelic. Characteristics G-funk (which uses funk with an artificially altered tempo) incorporates multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, a deep bass, heavy use of the snare drum, background female vocals, the extensive sampling of P-Funk tunes, and a high-pitched portamento saw wave synthesizer lead. It is typically set at a tempo of anywhere between 80 to 100 BPM. The lyrical content depended on the artist and could consist of sex, drug use (especially marijuana), love for a city/neighborhood, love for friends and relaxing words. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Many gangsta rappers flaunt associations with real street gangs, like the Crips and Bloods. Gangsta rap's pioneers Ice-T in 1986, and especially N.W.A in 1988 and the rise of Tupac Amaru Shakur in 1992. DFC (group)
DFC was an American hip hop duo composed of Flint, Michigan natives Alpha "Al" Breed and Bobby "T-Dub" Thompson. They were closely associated with MC Breed who was also Al's cousin. DFC stands for Da Funk Clan. MC Breed and DFC released their collaborative debut album on November 11, 1991 entitled ''MC Breed & DFC'', which charted at 142 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 and featured their most successful single, "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'". After ''MC Breed & DFC'', DFC signed with Atlantic Records and were placed on their subsidiary Big Beat Records (Atlantic subsidiary), Big Beat Records. They then released 1994's ''Things in tha Hood'' which became their most successful album, peaking at 71 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the singles "Caps Get Peeled" and "Thing in tha Hood". Aaron Tyler (born May 22, 1971), better known by his stage name MC Eiht (pronounced MC eight), is an American rapper and actor. Many of his songs are based on his life in Compton. His stage name was partly inspired by the numeral in KRS-One's name. He chose Eiht for its links to "hood culture", including Olde English 800 (8 Ball) and .38 caliber firearms. He is the ''de facto'' leader of West Coast hip hop group Compton's Most Wanted, which also included fellow Compton-based rappers Boom Bam, The Unknown DJ, Tha Chill, DJ Mike T, DJ Slip and Ant Capone. Chad Lamont Butler (December 29, 1973 – December 4, 2007), better known by his stage name Pimp C, was an American rapper and record producer. He was best known for his work with Bun B as one half of the hip-hop duo Underground Kingz (UGK). Todd Anthony Shaw (born April 28, 1966), better known by the stage name Too Short (stylized as Too $hort), is an American rapper and record producer. He became famous in the West Coast hip hop scene in the late 1980s, with lyrics often based on pimping and promiscuity, but also drug culture and street survival.
