The Himalayans (American Band)
The Himalayans were an American rock band active between 1989 and 1991. They are best known for starting the careers of two musicians, Adam Duritz of Counting Crows and Dave Janusko, a successful musician and songwriter. History The Himalayans formed in 1990 consisting of members Adam Duritz (vocals), Dave Janusko (guitar, bass), Dan Jewett (guitar), Marty Jones (bass), Chris Roldan (drums). Duritz and Jones had previously worked together when they recorded on tracks that appeared on the Sordid Humor album ''Light Music for Dying People''. The band recorded an album's worth of material, some of the tracks on that album were produced by future Counting Crows guitarist David Bryson. During this time Duritz and Bryson were performing as an acoustic duo at open mic nights and calling themselves Counting Crows prior to the formation of the full band. Himalayas (band)
HIMALAYAS are a Welsh rock group from Cardiff, Wales, formed in 2015. The group currently consists of Mike Griffiths (lead guitar and vocals), Joe Williams (rhythm guitar and vocals), Louis Heaps (bass) and James Goulbourn (drums). The group are described as energetic live performers, offering music with "seductive guitar lines, hip bass parts that will groove you to the core all driven by an avalanche of drums." History Goulbourn, Griffiths, and Williams all met in school and were later joined in the group by Heaps, who was an acquaintance of Goulbourn. The group cite interests from The Beatles, Otis Redding, Kelly Jones, Green Day, John Bonham, and Cher. ''August and Everything After'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Counting Crows, released September 14, 1993, on Geffen Records. The album was produced by T Bone Burnett and featured the founding members of the band: Steve Bowman (drums), David Bryson (guitar), Adam Duritz (vocals), Charlie Gillingham (keyboards), and Matt Malley (bass). Among the several session musicians used for the album was multi-instrumentalist David Immerglück, who later joined the band as a full-time member in 1999, as well as Burnett, who also provided additional guitar work. Four singles were released from the album, the highest charting of which was " Mr. Jones", which peaked at number 5 on the ''Billboard'' US Radio Songs Chart and number 2 on several genre-specific ''Billboard'' charts. Dave Janusko (born September 8, 1965) is an American songwriter, musician, producer, DJ, and remixer. He lives in San Francisco, California, United States. Career Janusko studied graphic design at Kent State University, then moved to New York City in 1988. Janusko and vocalist Tom Mullady teamed up to record music demos as emo / punk band The Medicine Men. In the early 1990s, Janusko was a bass player and songwriter for the Bay Area pop band The Himalayans, which included members Adam Duritz (before the formation of Counting Crows), Dan Jewett, Chris Roldan, and Marty Jones. Adam Fredric Duritz (born August 1, 1964) is an American singer, best known as the frontman for the rock band Counting Crows, of which he is a founding member and principal composer. Since its founding in 1991, Counting Crows has sold over 20 million records, released seven studio albums that have been certified gold or platinum, and been nominated for two Grammy Awards and an Academy Award. Duritz has recorded solo material of his own and has collaborated with other musical acts. He has also founded two record labels, ''E Pluribus Unum'' and ''Tyrannosaurus Records''. My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult (often shortened to Thrill Kill Kult or TKK) is an American electronic industrial rock band originally based in Chicago and founded by Groovie Mann (born Frankie Nardiello) and Buzz McCoy (born Marston Daley). They became known in the 1980s as pioneers of the industrial music genre – although by the early 1990s they had changed to a more disco-oriented sound – and as a frequent target of censorship groups, including the PMRC, which objected to the band's humorous and satirical references to Satan, Jesus and sex in their song lyrics and stage shows. During the early 1990s, Thrill Kill Kult had several hits on the U.S. dance club and alternative charts. Sordid Humor
Sordid Humor was an American rock music band, formed in 1987 by the duo of Tom Barnes and Jim Gordon. The duo received help from drummers Ken Gregg, Chris Pedersen, and Toby Hawkins, and bassists Tony Fader, David Immergluck and Marty Jones. Barnes' unique vocal style and unusual phrasing was the trademark of Sordid Humor, and he went on to lend his vocals and alt-rock guitar style to Engine 88, and a solo project called the Blimp. Sordid Humor played a textured rock with layers of guitars and vocals that, at the time, could best be classified as college rock, releasing several independent releases before breaking up in 1992. An EP entitled ''Tony Don't'' was released on vinyl in 1989 by Oedpius Records of San Francisco, CA.
