Hand
A hand is a prehensile, multi-fingered appendage located at the end of the forearm or forelimb of primates such as humans, chimpanzees, monkeys, and lemurs. A few other vertebrates such as the Koala#Characteristics, koala (which has two thumb#Opposition and apposition, opposable thumbs on each "hand" and fingerprints extremely similar to human fingerprints) are often described as having "hands" instead of paws on their front limbs. The raccoon is usually described as having "hands" though opposable thumbs are lacking. Some evolutionary anatomists use the term ''hand'' to refer to the appendage of digits on the forelimb more generally—for example, in the context of whether the three Digit (anatomy), digits of the bird hand involved the same Homology (biology), homologous loss of two digits as in the dinosaur hand. The human hand usually has five digits: Finger numbering#Four-finger system, four fingers plus one thumb; however, these are often referred to collectively as Finger ...

Round Hand
Round hand (also roundhand) is a type of handwriting and calligraphy originating in England in the 1660s primarily by the writing masters John Ayres and William Banson. Characterised by an open flowing hand (style) and subtle contrast of thick and thin strokes deriving from metal pointed nibs in which the flexibility of the metal allows the left and right halves of the point to spread apart under light pressure and then spring back together, the popularity of round hand grew rapidly, becoming codified as a standard, through the publication of printed writing manuals. Origins During the Renaissance, writing masters of the Apostolic Camera developed the '' italic cursiva'' script. When the Apostolic Camera was destroyed during the sack of Rome in 1527, many masters moved to Southern France where they began to refine the renaissance ' script into a new script, '. By the end of the 16th century, ' began to replace '. ' was further adapted into the French style ' in the early ...

HIV-associated Neurocognitive Disorder
HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) are neurological disorders associated with HIV infection and AIDS. It is a syndrome of progressive deterioration of memory, cognition, behavior, and motor function in HIV-infected individuals during the late stages of the disease, when immunodeficiency is severe. HAND may include neurological disorders of various severity. HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders are associated with a metabolic encephalopathy induced by HIV infection and fueled by immune activation of macrophages and microglia. These cells are actively infected with HIV and secrete neurotoxins of both host and viral origin. The essential features of HIV-associated dementia (HAD) are disabling cognitive impairment accompanied by motor dysfunction, speech problems and behavioral change. Cognitive impairment is characterised by mental slowness, trouble with memory and poor concentration. Motor symptoms include a loss of fine motor control leading to clumsiness, poor bal ...

HAND2
Heart- and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''HAND2'' gene. Function The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. This gene product is one of two closely related family members, the HAND proteins Hand1 and Hand2, which are asymmetrically expressed in the developing ventricular chambers and play an essential role in cardiac morphogenesis. Working in a complementary fashion, they function in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, implicating them as mediators of congenital heart disease. In addition, this transcription factor plays an important role in limb and branchial arch development. In one study, it was found that a missense mutation of the Hand2 protein in patients with the congenital heart disease (CHD) Tetralogy of Fallot experienced significantly decreased Hand2 interactions with other key developmental genes such as GATA4 and N ...

HAND1
Heart- and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''HAND1'' gene. A member of the HAND subclass of basic Helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors, the Heart and neural crest-derived transcript-1 (''HAND1)'' gene is vital for the development and differentiation of three distinct embryological lineages including the cardiac muscle cells of the heart, trophoblast of the placenta, and yolk sac vasculogenesis. Most highly related to twist-like bHLH genes in amino acid identity and embryonic expression, HAND1 can form homo- and heterodimer combinations with multiple bHLH partners, mediating transcriptional activity in the nucleus. Function The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. This gene product is one of two closely related family members, the HAND proteins are expressed within the developing ventricular chambers, cardiac neural crest, endocardium (HAND2 onl ...

Shiver And Shake
''Shiver and Shake'' was a British comic magazine published every Monday by IPC Magazines Ltd. It ran from (issue dates) 10 March 1973 to 5 October 1974, when it merged with ''Whoopee!'' As often happens with British comics, many names of strips were a play on popular television programmes and films of the time. The theme of the strips were mainly horror (albeit of a comic nature); similar to the later ''Monster Fun''; indeed, ''Frankie Stein'' appeared in both comics. In an idea borrowed from the successful ''Whizzer and Chips'', it was two comics in one; ''Shake'' being a pull-out section from ''Shiver''. The main star of ''Shiver'' was a ghost of the same name, while the eponymous '' Shake'' was an elephant. Both had their own strips in their respective sections ('' The Duke's Spook'' and ''Shake''). In 1973, the comic also featured a one-page strip starring stand-up comedian Charlie Williams. ''Shiver and Shake'' ran for 79 issues. It also had eight specials, from 1973 to ...

The Hand (Botero)
''The Hand'' () is a bronze sculpture by the Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero. Since 1994, it has been on public display in Madrid, Spain. The 500 kilogram hand is of a plump form, a trademark of the sculptor. The sculpture was one of twenty-one exhibits in a 1994 exhibition of Botero's work. After a public vote, '' Woman with Mirror'' was the sculpture that received the most votes and was gifted to the city by the artist. Madrid treasurer Fernando López Amor urged corporations to purchase other works and put them on public display. ''The Hand'' was bought by Telefónica in October 1994, for 70 million Spanish pesetas (around €420,000). Its matte finish made it more suitable than other exhibits for permanent outside display. A third Botero piece, ''Raptio of Europa'', was installed at Madrid–Barajas Airport. In April 1995, Telefónica loaned the sculpture to the city and it was installed on Paseo de la Castellana.
