The Guard (2001 Film)
''The Guard'' is a 2001 Indian Malayalam-language film directed and written by debutante Hakim Rawther. It was jointly produced by Sabitha Jayaraj (Green Dragon Movies) and Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC). The film has Kalabhavan Mani, the only actor on screen, playing the role of a forest guard in an isolated dense forest. '' Yaadein'' (Hindi, 1964), which featured two actors, previously held the Guinness World Records in the category Fewest actors in a narrative film. The crew of ''The Guard '' made an attempt to replace the former record but failed. The film features cinematography by Saloo George, editing by Venugopal and artwork by Nathan Mannoor. The background score has been provided by Biju and songs featured in the film are composed by Shyam Sharman and Rajesh with lyrics written by Arumughan Vengidang. Hakim (director)
Hakim Rawther, known mononymously as Hakim, was an Indian actor and film maker in Malayalam cinema. He was known for his directional debut ''The Guard'' (2001), which is the world's first film with only a single actor in the cast. He had also acted in supporting roles in several Malayalam movies. Biography Hakim was from Kottayam, Kerala. Before entering cinema, he was a mimicry artist. He was one of the first members of Cochin Kalabhavan. He accompanied singer K. J. Yesudas as a session mimicry artist during the period 1979-89. He has been a common face in Jayaraj's films. He has also acted in supporting roles with many other directors. He debuted as a director with ''The Guard'' (2001), which was the world's first film with only an actor on screen. Personal life Hakim was married to Ghazal writer and singer Devi Menon. Kerala State Film Development Corporation (abbreviated as KSFDC), is an organization founded by the Government of Kerala, India for promoting the film market in the state. It was founded in 1975, a period when the production of Malayalam films were centered in Madras (now Chennai). KSFDC was formed with an objective of moving the Malayalam film industry from Madras to Kerala. At the time of its inception, it was the first of its kind organization for film development under public sector in India. KSFDC organised the International Film Festival of Kerala annually until 1998, after which its management was handed over to the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. Kalabhavan Mani
Kunnisseri Veettil Raman Mani (1 January 1971 – 6 March 2016), better known by his stage name Kalabhavan Mani, was an Indian actor and singer. Mani started his career as a mimicry artist with the Kalabhavan comedy troupe. He had starred in over 250 films, including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu films, and was renowned for his humorous characters and villain roles. Mani won the National Film Award – Special Jury Award and Kerala State Film Award for his performance as Ramu in ''Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum'' (1999). ''Yaadein'' (English: ''Memories'') is a 1964 black and white Hindi film directed and produced by Sunil Dutt who also stars in the film as the only actor to appear onscreen in the entire film.
