The Green Album (Skankin' Pickle Album)
''The Green Album'' is the fourth and final studio album by American ska punk band Skankin' Pickle, released in 1996 on Dr. Strange Records. Commissioned and released by Dr. Strange Records (rather than Skankin' Pickle's own label Dill Records), ''The Green Album'' was originally intended to be a six-song EP of cover songs wherein each member picked and sung a song of their choosing. Eventually the decision was made to expand the EP into a full-length, leading the band to record seven additional songs, all of which were unreleased demos dating back to as far as 1989. According to the liner notes, ''The Green Album'' was recorded and mixed in 30 hours for the cost of $735, recorded on 8 track in the basement where trombonist Lars Nylander and members of ska punk band The Rudiments were living at the time. Skankin' Pickle
Skankin' Pickle was an American ska punk band formed in San Jose, California that was active from 1989 to 1997. Biography Skankin' Pickle first formed in December 1988, made up of students from Westmont High School and Los Gatos High School. The band played their first show on April 28, 1989, consisting of lead songwriter and performer Mike "Mr. Clean" Mattingly on bass and vocals, saxophonist and vocalist Mike Park, guitarist and vocalist Lynette Knackstedt and drummer Chuck Phelps. The group recruited trombonist Lars Nylander several months later, then continued as a five-piece until the addition of second trombonist Gerry Lundquist in early 1990. In 1991, Park formed Dill Records, based out of Monte Sereno, to release Skankin' Pickle's material, beginning with their debut album, the half-live, half-studio '' Skafunkrastapunk''. Stewart Armstrong Copeland (born July 16, 1952) is a Scottish-American musician and composer. He is best known for his work as the drummer of the English rock band the Police from 1977 to 1986, and again from 2007 to 2008. Lynette Knackstedt
Lynette Christine Knackstedt (April 26, 1970 – December 7, 2007) was an American punk and ska musician, as well as a member of the band Skankin' Pickle. Early life Knackstedt was born in Santa Clara, California. She graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1988. She attended De Anza Junior College and San Francisco City College. Career Knackstedt was best known as a core member of Skankin' Pickle, a ska band formed in 1989, with her childhood friend Mike Park, Lars Nylander, Chuck Phelps, Gerry Lundquist and Mike Mattingly. She played guitar and was one of the band's vocalists. The band recorded five albums and toured the United States performing in the early 1990s. Knackstedt was also involved in running Dill Records, the band's independent record company, launched in 1991. After she and Nylander toured Europe as Skankin' Pickle in 1997, the band officially dissolved, but the pair continued performing as the 78 RPMs. She also performed with Lucifer's Strip Club Band. ... Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. "Working in the Coal Mine" is a song with music and lyrics by the American musician and record producer Allen Toussaint. It was an international hit for Lee Dorsey in 1966, and has been recorded by other musicians including Devo in 1981. Bad Manners are an English two-tone and ska band led by frontman Buster Bloodvessel. Early appearances included ''Top of the Pops'' and the live film documentary, ''Dance Craze'' (1981). They were at their most popular during the early 1980s, during a period when other ska revival bands such as Madness, the Specials and the Selecter filled the charts. Special Brew (song)
"Special Brew" is a song by British 2-tone and ska band Bad Manners, released in September 1980 and was the third single from their first album ''Ska 'n' B''. It was the band's joint biggest hit in the UK, reaching number 3 in the UK Singles Chart, where it stayed for two weeks. The song takes its inspiration from the Carlsberg lager Special Brew and is about someone who loves it like a significant other. After the success of " Ne-Ne Na-Na Na-Na Nu-Nu", the band realised they needed to write more songs and so went to the local off-licence for inspiration. One of the ideas sounded "a bit soppy... a bit of a long song" to Buster Bloodvessel, which was not their style, so he picked up his beer and sang "I love you, yes i do 'cause i know that you're my special brew" and the song was then written in a matter of minutes.
