''The Golden Age of Looney Tunes'' is a collection of LaserDiscs released by MGM/UA Home Video in the 1990s. There were five sets made, featuring a number of discs, and each disc side represented a different theme, being made up of seven cartoons per side. The first volume was also released on VHS, with each tape representing one disc side. Like many other ''Looney Tunes'' home video releases by MGM/UA Home Video, Volumes 1-4 used faded 35 mm Associated Artists Productions (a.a.p.) television prints as MGM/UA and Turner Entertainment, owners of the rights to the shorts, at the time had no access to Warner Bros.' negatives. Unlike many other ''Looney Tunes'' home video releases by MGM/UA Home Video, most of the a.a.p. logos were cut from the releases. Arthur Davis ( Davidavitch) (June 14, 1905 – May 9, 2000) was an American animator and director known for his time at Warner Brothers' Termite Terrace cartoon studio. Early life Davis was born on June 14, 1905, in Yonkers, New York to Hungarian parents. He is the younger brother of animator Mannie Davis. Career Davis got his start as a teenager at Raoul Barre's Studio in 1918 and later moved to Jefferson Film Corporation when the Mutt and Jeff cartoons began being made there in January 1921 it was claimed that he won a cartoon competition. In 1923 he joined Out Of The Inkwell Films in New York, working as an assistant in 1922 since Dick Huemer proposed him to be an assistant. He is reputed to have been the first in-betweener in the animation industry. Another of his distinctions was that he tapped out the famous " bouncing ball" of the "Follow the Bouncing Ball" cartoons of the 1920s. Development Of Bugs Bunny
The character that would evolve into Bugs Bunny appeared in four cartoon shorts before his first official appearance in Tex Avery's ''A Wild Hare''. While this early version is commonly referred to as "Happy Rabbit", animation historian David Gerstein disputes this, saying that the only usage of the term was from Mel Blanc himself; the name "Bugs Bunny" was used as early as April 1938, from a model sheet made by Charles Thorson which was used for the short ''Hare-um Scare-um''. Bugs was also mentioned by name from an August 1939 review of the short in the Motion Picture Herald. Several published first person accounts, encyclopedic references, and Warner Bros.' own published material describe the inception of the name and of the character. Harman And Ising
Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising were an American animation team known for founding the Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer animation studios. Early history Harman and Ising first worked in animation in the early 1920s at Laugh-O-Gram Studio, Walt Disney's studio in Kansas City. When Disney moved operations to California, Harman, Ising, and fellow animator Carman Maxwell stayed behind to try to start their own studio. Their plans went nowhere, however, and the men soon rejoined Disney to work on his ''Alice Comedies'' and '' Oswald the Lucky Rabbit'' films. It was during this time that Harman and Ising developed a style of cartoon drawing that would later be closely associated with, and credited to, Disney. ''The Old Grey Hare'' is a 1944 ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Bob Clampett. The short was released on October 28, 1944, and features Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Title The title is a double play on words. One is the typical pun between "hare" and "hair", with the bunny (who was already grey-haired) rendered "old and grey" for this cartoon. The title also refers to the old song, " The Old Gray Mare". Some of the lobby cards for this cartoon gave the alternate spelling, ''The Old Gray Hare''. Marvin the Martian is an extraterrestrial character from Warner Bros.' ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' cartoons. Beaky Buzzard is an animated cartoon character in the Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons. He is a young turkey vulture (sometimes called a "buzzard" in the United States) with black body feathers and a white tuft around his throat. His neck is long and thin, bending 90 degrees at an enormous Adam's apple. His neck and head are featherless, and his beak and feet are large and yellow or orange, depending on the cartoon.
