Swagger (No-Man Song)
"Swagger" is a cassette EP and the second release by the then British trio No Man Is An Island, which would later rename and be known simply as No-Man. The cassette was made for the band to sell at concerts. It was later described by the band themselves as "very much a transitional release, with the band at an uncomfortable position between brash synthpop, abrasive art rock and the lusher atmospheres which would later become a No-Man trademark." Some promo versions also included "The Girl From Missouri" (the earlier self-titled debut release). "Bleed" was featured in two subsequent versions - one on the 'Sweetheart Raw' EP and one on 'Heaven Taste'. The song "Flowermouth" has no link with the Flowermouth album besides the title (although parts of the song were recycled for "Lovecry" on their 1993 debut LP Loveblows & Lovecries - A Confession). "Life Is Elsewhere" comes from Tim Bowness' former band Plenty (later renamed Samuel Smiles Samuel Smiles (23 December 1812 – 1 ...

No-Man
No-Man are an English art pop duo, formed in 1987 as No Man Is an Island (Except the Isle of Man) by singer Tim Bowness and multi-instrumentalist Steven Wilson. The band has so far produced seven studio albums and a number of singles/outtakes collections (most notably, 2006's career retrospective, ''All the Blue Changes''). The band was once lauded as "conceivably the most important English group since The Smiths" by ''Melody Maker'' music newspaper, and a 2017 article of '' Drowned in Sound'' described them as "probably the most underrated band of the last 25 years". Originally creating a sample-based proto-trip hop/ ambient/ electropop-styled music, No-Man has pursued a more organic, diverse and band-oriented sound in subsequent years. Drawing from a diverse mix of singer-songwriter, post rock, minimalist, progressive rock, jazz and contemporary ambient sources for inspiration, No-Man's musical style is distinctive yet difficult to categorise. Art Pop
Art pop (also typeset art-pop or artpop) is a loosely defined style of pop music influenced by art theories as well as ideas from other art mediums, such as fashion, fine art, cinema, and avant-garde literature. The genre draws on pop art's integration of high and low culture, and emphasizes signs, style, and gesture over personal expression. Art pop musicians may deviate from traditional pop audiences and rock music conventions, instead exploring postmodern approaches and ideas such as pop's status as commercial art, notions of artifice and the self, and questions of historical authenticity. Starting in the mid-1960s, British and American pop musicians such as Brian Wilson, Phil Spector, and the Beatles began incorporating the ideas of the pop art movement into their recordings. English art pop musicians drew from their art school studies, while in America the style drew on the influence of pop artist Andy Warhol and affiliated band the Velvet Underground. The style woul ...

Speak (No-Man Album)
''Speak'' is a compilation album consisting of previously obscure material by British Art rock band No-Man. Originally, recorded between 1988 and 1989, the songs were re-mixed and re-sung in 1999 (during the band's sessions for ''Returning Jesus''). The songs had only been released on compact cassette earlier in the band's history. Snapper Music's 2005 reissue of ''Speak'' adds the bonus track "The Hidden Art of Man Ray" (an untreated improvisation from 1988). The track also appears as a second disc on the limited edition of Tonefloat's vinyl release of ''Speak''. All tracks (except 4 and 10, which are newer versions recorded in 1999) were cleaned up from original tapes, remixed and new vocal takes recorded. "Pink Moon" is a Nick Drake cover from his album of the same name. Track listing Musicians *Tim Bowness – vocals, words, guitar (11) *Steven Wilson – instruments, backing vocals (8,10) *Stuart Blagden – guitar (13) *Ben Coleman – violin (1,6,10,13) *Richard ...
