''The Ghost Train'' is a 1931 British comedy thriller film directed by Walter Forde and starring Jack Hulbert, Cicely Courtneidge and Ann Todd. It is based on the play '' The Ghost Train'' by Arnold Ridley. The film's art direction was by Walter Murton. Thought to have been lost for some years, parts of the film (5 reels of images with 2 reels of sound) were recovered in a very decomposed state. It was part of the British Film Institute campaign in 1992 to locate missing movies. Walter Forde
Walter Forde (born Thomas Seymour Woolford, 21 April 1898 – 7 January 1984) was a British actor, screenwriter and Film director, director. Born in Lambeth, south London in 1898, he directed over fifty films between 1919 from the silent era through to 1949 in the sound film, sound era. He died in Los Angeles, California in 1984. Forde was the son of the music hall comedian Tom Seymour. During the 1920s, he was a silent film comedian, acting in a series of shorts before shifting into directing feature films. Emerging as an established film director in the 1930s, he directed films for Gainsborough Pictures and Ealing Studios. Madeleine Angela Clinton-Baddeley, CBE (4 July 1904 – 22 February 1976) was an English stage and television actress, best-remembered for her role as household cook Mrs. Bridges in the period drama '' Upstairs, Downstairs''. Her stage career lasted more than six decades. Early life Madeleine Angela Clinton-Baddeley was born in West Ham, Essex (now London) in 1904 into a wealthy family, she would later base the character of Mrs. Bridges on one of the cooks her family employed. Her younger sister was actress Hermione Baddeley. In 1912, Angela and Hermione enrolled as pupils at Margaret Morris's dancing school in Chelsea. Angela described the school as "a wonderful foundation for all my work on the stage." Donald Calthrop
Donald Esme Clayton Calthrop (11 April 1888 – 15 July 1940) was an English stage and film actor. Born in London, Calthrop was educated at St Paul's School and made his first stage appearance at eighteen years of age at the Comedy Theatre, London. His first film was '' The Gay Lord Quex'' released in 1917. He starred as the title character in the successful musical '' The Boy'' in the same year. He then appeared in more than 60 films between 1916 and 1940, including five films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He died in Eton, Berkshire from a heart attack while he was filming ''Major Barbara'' (1941). According to Ronald Neame in his autobiography, some shots in the final film had a stand-in playing Calthrop's role (from the back) and a piece of dialogue was recorded using an unnamed person who impersonated Calthrop's voice. Allan John Jeayes (19 January 1885 – 20 September 1963) was an English stage and film actor. Jeayes was born in London Borough of Barnet, Barnet, Hertfordshire, the son of Isaac Herbert Jeayes, archivist and Assistant Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Museum. Jeayes was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood, Merchant Taylor's School, and was originally a farmer, before making his stage debut in 1906. Jeayes made his film debut in the 1918 film ''Nelson'' as Sir William Hamilton (diplomat), William Hamilton. He appeared in a number of films by producer Alexander Korda. His last film appearance was in 1962's ''Reach for Glory''.
