''The Gaffer'' is an ITV situation comedy series of the early 1980s, that starred Bill Maynard and was written by businessman Graham White. It was made for the ITV network by Yorkshire Television. Bill Maynard
Walter Frederick George Williams (8 October 1928 – 30 March 2018), better known by his stage name Bill Maynard, was an English comedian and actor. He began working in television in the 1950s, notably starring alongside Terry Scott in ''Great Scott - It's Maynard!'' (1955–56). In the 1970s and 1980s, he starred in the successful British sitcoms ''Oh No It's Selwyn Froggitt'' and '' The Gaffer'' and appeared in five films in the ''Carry On'' series. After a hiatus from television work in the late 1980s, Maynard starred as Claude Jeremiah Greengrass in the long-running television series '' Heartbeat'' from 1992 to 2000, reprising the character in the spin-off ''The Royal'' from 2002 to 2003. The Rover P6 series (named as the 2000, 2200, or 3500, depending on engine displacement) was a saloon car produced by Rover and subsequently British Leyland from 1963 to 1977 in Solihull, Warwickshire, England, UK. Adam Russell Hunter (18 February 1925 – 26 February 2004) was a Scottish television, stage and film actor. He played Lonely in the TV thriller series ''Callan'', starring Edward Woodward, and shop steward Harry in the Yorkshire Television sitcom '' The Gaffer'' (1981–1983) with Bill Maynard. He made guest appearances in well-known series such as '' The Sweeney'', '' Doctor Who'', ''Taggart'', ''A Touch of Frost'', ''The Bill'' and Granada television's '' The Return of Sherlock Holmes'' in The Adventure of Silver Blaze.
