The Future Leaders
''The Future Leaders'' is a 1973 novel by Kenyan novelist Mwangi Ruheni. It was published as part of the important African Writers Series. The novel is set in Kenya before its independence from Britain, following the life events of Reuben Ruoro during the transition from colony to independent country. Reception ''The Complete Review'' gave the novel a B, writing that "''The Future Leaders'' isn't very well written or presented, but it is a rollicking and often entertaining ride, cheerful Reuben an appealing guide (of sorts), and one does get some sense of Kenya around independence." Mwangi Ruheni
Mwangi Ruheni is the pseudonym of Kenyan novelist Nicholas Muraguri (born 1934) best known for his novels ''The Minister's Daughter'' (1975) and ''The Future Leaders'' (1973), which were published as part of the African Writers Series. Muraguri was trained as a chemist, and spent 22 years as the Chief Government Chemist of Kenya. Early life and education Muragari attended Mang'u High School. He then went on to Makerere University in Uganda, where he studied Botany Zoology and Chemistry and became editor of the schools' creative writing journal, the ''St. Augustine's Newsletter''. He then received a master's degree in Chemistry between 1957 and 1959, a MSc in forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde. The African Writers Series (AWS) is a collection of books written by African novelists, poets and politicians. Published by Heinemann (publisher), Heinemann, 359 books appeared in the series between 1962 and 2003. The series has provided an international audience for many African writers, including Chinua Achebe, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, Steve Biko, Ama Ata Aidoo, Nadine Gordimer, Buchi Emecheta, and Okot p'Bitek.
