''The Fighting Cub'' is a 1925 American silent film, silent drama film directed by Paul Hurst (actor), Paul Hurst and starring Wesley Barry, Mildred Harris, and Pat O'Malley (actor), Pat O'Malley. In 1926 it was released in Britain under the alternative title of ''Son o' Mine''. Plot Summary In this modest drama, a determined copy boy achieves his aspiration of becoming a journalist after unearthing the hideout of a criminal gang. Renowned young actor Wesley Barry takes on the role of the persistent copy boy, who consistently seeks opportunities to report from the city editor. He's finally given an opportunity with a condition: he must secure an interview with a reclusive philanthropist known for evading the media. With the assistance of Mildred Harris, the philanthropist's daughter, Barry succeeds in his task. Subsequently, promoted to a junior reporter, he stumbles upon the criminals' den. Paul Hurst (actor)
Paul Causey Hurst (October 15, 1888 – February 27, 1953) was an American actor and director. Career Born in Traver, California, Hurst was half-Cherokee and half-Seneca. He was raised on a ranch. He appeared in hundreds of films during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. However, he got his start painting scenery as part of the backstage crew during the silent movie era. By 1911, he was active in films as an actor, writer and director. He freelanced and worked for many of the movie studios, building a solid reputation for his work both on and off screen. Hurst is best remembered for two roles: as the Yankee deserter who trespasses at Tara and is shot by Scarlett in ''Gone with the Wind'' (1939); and his memorable characterization of the drunken and sadistic vigilante Smith in ''The Ox Bow Incident'' (1943). The UCLA Film & Television Archive is a visual arts organization focused on the preservation, study, and appreciation of film and television, based at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Film Reel
A reel is an object around which a length of another material (usually long and flexible) is wound for storage (usually hose are wound around a reel). Generally a reel has a cylindrical core (known as a '' spool'') with flanges around the ends (known as the ''rims'') to retain the material wound around the core. In most cases the core is hollow in order to pass an axle and allow the reel to rotate like a wheel, and crank or handles may exist for manually turning the reel, while others are operated by (typically electric) motors. Construction The size of the core is dependent on several factors. A smaller core will obviously allow more material to be stored in a given space. However, there is a limit to how tightly the stored material can be wound without damaging it and this limits how small the core can be. Stuart Holmes (born Joseph Liebchen; March 10, 1884 – December 29, 1971) was an American actor and sculptor whose career spanned seven decades. He appeared in almost 450 films between 1909 and 1964, sometimes credited as Stewart Holmes. Biography Holmes was born Joseph Liebchen on March 10, 1884, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was educated. For 20 years, Holmes performed in vaudeville and on stage, with the latter often being in Shakespeare's plays. His work in the theater included a stint in Germany. Holmes's film career began in 1911 and ended with ''The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'' (1962). As a sculptor Holmes created work for at least three California United States post offices — in Oceanside (1936), Claremont (1937), and Bell (1937).
