The Family Secret (1936 Film)
''The Family Secret'' (Swedish: ''Familjens hemlighe'') is a 1936 Swedish comedy film directed by Gustaf Molander and starring Olof Winnerstrand, Karin Swanström and Erik 'Bullen' Berglund.Qvist & Bagh p.145 It is based on the 1903 French play '' The Secret of Polichinelle'' by Pierre Wolff, and a French adaptation was also produced the same year. The film premiered in Gothenburg in December 1936. The film's sets were designed by the art director Arne Ã…kermark. Synopsis A middle class family, planning an arranged marriage for their adult son with a wealthy heiress, are shocked to discover that he is already engaged and has a small child with his fiancee. Gustaf Molander
Gustaf Harald August Molander (18 November 1888 – 19 June 1973) was a Sweden, Swedish actor and film director. His parents were director Harald Molander, Sr. (1858–1900) and singer and actress Lydia Molander, ''née'' Wessler, and his brother was the director Olof Molander (1892–1966). He was the father of director and producer Harald Molander from his first marriage to actress Karin Molander and father to actor Jan Molander from his second marriage to Elsa Fahlberg (1892–1977). Gustaf Molander was born in Helsinki, Helsingfors (now Helsinki) in the Grand Duchy of Finland (in the Russian Empire), where his father was working at the Swedish Theatre. He studied in the school of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm 1907–1909, acted at the Swedish theatre in Helsingfors 1909–1913, and then at the Royal Dramatic Theatre from 1913 to 1926. Birgit Tengroth
Birgit Tengroth (13 July 1915 – 21 September 1983) was a Swedish film actress. She appeared in more than 40 films between 1926 and 1950. Biography Tengroth debuted in Sven Jerring's radio show 'Barnens BrevlÃ¥da' together with her friend Sickan Carlsson at the age of 10. She studied at Royal Opera's ballet school 1926-31. Her first work for the movies was a small part in Mordbrännerskan (1926). She got a contract with the leading Swedish studio Svensk Filmindustri (SF) in 1932 and remained there throughout the decade. She was known for playing fresh, girl next door roles, which gave her a popular following amongst young fans. When Ingrid Bergman made her screen debut, she was unfavourably compared to Tengroth.
