King Vidor
King Wallis Vidor (; February 8, 1894 – November 1, 1982) was an American film director, film producer, and screenwriter whose 67-year film-making career successfully spanned the silent and sound eras. His works are distinguished by a vivid, humane, and sympathetic depiction of contemporary social issues. Considered an auteur director, Vidor approached multiple genres and allowed the subject matter to determine the style, often pressing the limits of film-making conventions. His most acclaimed and successful film in the silent era is ''The Big Parade'' (1925). Vidor's sound films of the 1940s and early 1950s arguably represent his richest output. Harold Goodwin (American Actor)
Harold Goodwin (December 1, 1902 – July 12, 1987) was an American actor who performed in over 225 films. Biography Goodwin began his film career at age 12. Goodwin's first starring role came in ''Oliver Twist, Jr.'' (1921). He also appeared as Jeff Brown in the 1927 Buster Keaton comedy ''College''. He followed up with a role in another Keaton film ''The Cameraman'' in 1928, opposite Keaton and actress Marceline Day. Goodwin worked steadily through the silent film era and transitioned into the talkie era as a character actor, often as a "tough guy" because of his athletic stature. He was seen in the role of Detering in the 1930 Lewis Milestone-directed World War I drama ''All Quiet on the Western Front''. His subsequent film roles were mostly small and uncredited. In his later years Goodwin mainly acted in the Western film genre and often worked as a stuntman for film studios. Raymond Durgnat (1 September 1932 – 19 May 2002) was a British film critic, who was born in London to Swiss parents. During his life he wrote for virtually every major English language film publication. In 1965 he published the first major critical essay on Michael Powell, who had hitherto been "fashionably dismissed by critics as a 'technician’s director'", as Durgnat put it. His many books include ''Films and Feelings'' (1967), ''A Mirror for England: British Movies from Austerity to Affluence'' (1970), and ''The Strange Case of Alfred Hitchcock'' (1974). He wrote principally for ''Films and Filming'' (in the 1960s), ''Film Comment'' (in the 1970s) and ''Monthly Film Bulletin'' (in the 1980s), and taught at various art schools and universities, notably St Martin's College and the Royal College of Art, where his students included Tony Scott. The Turn in the Road is a 1919 American silent drama film directed by King Vidor. His first feature film, the production was financed by the Brentwood Film Corporation and the title and the scenario based on a Christian Science religious tract. No print of this film is known to exist, which suggests that it is a lost film. Plot As described in a film magazine, Paul Perry (Hughes), the son of wealthy iron manufacturer Hamilton Perry (Nichols), openly loves the younger daughter of Reverend Matthew Barker (Hall), while the older daughter, who is more practical, secretly loves him. The young couple get married, and a child is born a year later but the mother dies. Christian Science is a set of beliefs and practices associated with members of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Adherents are commonly known as Christian Scientists or students of Christian Science, and the church is sometimes informally known as the Christian Science church. It was founded in 19th-century New England by Mary Baker Eddy, who wrote the 1875 book '' Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'', which outlined the theology of Christian Science. The book became Christian Science's central text, along with the Bible, and by 2001 had sold over nine million copies.
