Léo Joannon
Léo Joannon (21 August 1904 – 28 March 1969) was a French writer and film director. Born in Aix-en-Provence, Joannon was originally a law student who became a novelist and journalist before entering the film industry in the 1920s as a cameraman. Career Joannon first attracted international attention in early 1939 during the production of ''S.O.S. Mediterranean,'' when his attempts to include shots of a German naval ship docked in the port of Tangier created a diplomatic incident between the pre-World War II French and German governments. The film later won the Grand Prix du Cinema Français. Joannon is best known to international audiences as the director of the comedy film ''Atoll K'' (1951), which was the final motion picture starring the legendary comedic double act Laurel and Hardy. Comedy Film
A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. Films in this style traditionally have a happy ending (black comedy being an exception). Comedy is one of the oldest genres in film and it is derived from the classical comedy in theatre. Some of the earliest silent films were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. Génia Vaury
Génia (stylized as GéNIA; born in Ukrainian SSR) is a London-based virtuoso concert pianist and composer. Génia was born in Ukraine into the Horowitz family of musicians and scientists. Her repertoire ranges from classical music to contemporary works and her own compositions. Education Génia started her studies at the age of four with her great-grandmother, the pianist and pedagogue Regina Horowitz (sister of pianist Vladimir Horowitz and wife of the Soviet economist Evsei Liberman). Génia continued her studies with pianist and teacher Sergei Yushkevitch at the Kharkov Institute of Arts. In 1999, Génia graduated from Guildhall School of Music earning the Premier Prix. Robert Brunet
Robert Brunet (8 Mar 1903–1986) was a French racing driver between 1931 and 1951. Most of his 44 entries were Grands Prix, but he also entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He achieved a class victory and was fifth overall in the 1949 edition. Personal life and work In 1926, Brunet married the Countess of Choiseul, a rich noblewoman, with whom he invested in his racing career by buying a Bugatti. However, he did not become successful until 1933, when he purchased the Bugatti T51 previously owned by Jean-Pierre Wimille. In 1934, Brunet replaced Louis Braillard as head of Ecurie Braillard and raced with Benoît Falchetto for the following two years without achieving major results. Besides racing, Brunet lead a factory which produced capacitors for cars. With the help of contracts with the French army, it had 400 employees by 1947. Marcel Duhamel (16 July 1900 in Paris – 6 March 1977 in Saint-Laurent-du-Var) was a French actor and screenwriter, founder of the Série noire publishing imprint. He played The Foreman in Jean Renoir's 1936 ''The Crime of Monsieur Lange''. In 1953 he was credited as screenplay writer for ''This Man Is Dangerous'', a French film adaptation of Peter Cheyney's novel of the same name. He translated and published Jim Thompson's 1964 pulp novel '' Pop. 1280'' as ''1275 Âmes'' ("souls") in French in 1966. Thereafter, the book was transposed to French colonial Africa in Bertrand Tavernier's film ''Coup de Torchon'' (''Clean Slate'') in 1981. He also translated (with Maurice-Edgar Coindreau) John Steinbeck's ''The Grapes of Wrath.'' Coindreau in an interview credited Duhamel with the bulk of the translation, noting that he himself had translated only about sixty pages of it. Serge Nadaud (May 14, 1906 – July 18, 1995) was a Russian Empire-born French stage and film actor. He was born Eugene Rabinowitch to a Jewish family in Bakhmut which was then part of the Russian Empire. Sometime after the Russian Revolution of 1917 his family emigrated to France and settled there.
