The Drowned Man (2013 Play)
''The Drowned Man'' was an original theatre production by British theatre company Punchdrunk, in collaboration with the Royal National Theatre. Overview Set within the fictional "Temple Pictures", ''The Drowned Man'' was Punchdrunk's largest theatre installation, covering 200,000 sq ft., catering for up to 600 audience members per show with a cast of nearly 40. The production fell within several genres of theatre, including so-called site-specific theatre, promenade theatre, interactive theatre or immersive theatre. The audience members were free to roam around the sets at will, wearing white masks to distinguish themselves from the cast, and the narrative was communicated through a series of overlapping scenes blending the mediums of interpretive dance, contemporary dance and traditional acting. Punchdrunk is a British theatre company, formed in 2000 by Felix Barrett. The company developed a form of immersive theater, immersive theatre in which no audience member will have the same experience as another. The audience is free to choose what to watch and where to go. The format is related to Environmental theater, promenade theatre, but utilizes audience immersion more extensively. The company's way of using sound, light, movement, and environment in such ways while merging mass spectacle with intimate audience experiences, has garnered major recognition for being so unique. John van der Put (born 9 June 1980) is a magician and comedian from the United Kingdom who performs under the stage name Piff the Magic Dragon. A winner of multiple awards from British magic societies, he toured as a supporting act for Mumford and Sons and has appeared on '' Penn & Teller: Fool Us'' and '' America's Got Talent''. ''Something Wicked This Way Comes'' is a 1962 dark fantasy novel by Ray Bradbury. It is about two 13-year-old best friends, Jim Nightshade and William Halloway, and their nightmarish experience with a traveling carnival that comes to their Midwestern home, Green Town, Illinois, on October 24th. In dealing with the creepy figures of this carnival, the boys learn how to combat fear. The carnival's leader is the mysterious "Mr. Dark", who seemingly wields the power to grant the townspeople's secret desires. In reality, Dark is a malevolent being who, like the carnival, lives off the life force of those they enslave. Mr. Dark's presence is countered by that of Will's father, Charles Halloway, the janitor of the town library, who harbors his own secret fear of growing older because he feels he is too old to be Will's dad. ''The Day of the Locust'' is a 1939 novel by American author Nathanael West set in Hollywood, California. The novel follows a young artist from the Yale School of Fine Arts named Tod Hackett, who has been hired by a Hollywood studio to do scene design and painting. While he works he plans an important painting to be called "The Burning of Los Angeles," a portrayal of the chaotic and fiery holocaust which will destroy the city. ''Woyzeck'' () is a stage play written by Georg Büchner. Büchner wrote the play between July and October 1836, yet left it incomplete at his death in February 1837.
