''The Dawn of the Empire'' () is a South Korean historical television series which aired on KBS1 from March 2, 2002 to January 26, 2003 for 94 episodes every weekend at 21:45 ( KST). It revolves around the reigns of the second, third and fourth king of Goryeo, particularly on the latter, Gwangjong's. Lady Sogwangjuwon
Lady Sogwangjuwon of the Wang clan (; ) or known as Lady Ham () was the daughter of Wang-Gyu who became the 17th wife of Taejo of Goryeo and bore him a son, Prince Gwangjuwon. Her older sister became Taejo's 16th wife and her younger sister became Hyejong's 2nd wife. Prince Heunghwa
Prince Heunghwa (Hangul: 흥화궁군, Hanja: 興化宮君; d. 960; ) was a Korean Royal Prince as the only son of Hyejong of Goryeo and Queen Uihwa. He was both a half nephew and older-brother-in-law of Gwangjong of Goryeo since his 1st younger sister became Gwangjong's 2nd wife. Although Heunghwa was the oldest son and born from the queen, but he was unable to ascend to the throne since he was too young when his father died in 945. Lady Gyeonghwa
Lady Gyeonghwa of the Jincheon Im clan (; ) was a Goryeo Royal Princess as the first and oldest daughter of King Hyejong and Queen Uihwa who became the second wife of her half uncle, King Gwangjong, which she then followed her maternal clan. As a Princess, she therefore was called as Princess Gyeonghwa () or Grand Princess Gyeonghwa (). Lady Hugwangjuwon of the Wang clan (; ) was the second wife of Hyejong of Goryeo. She was the youngest, among Lady Gwangjuwon and Lady Sogwangjuwon. Hyejong of Goryeo (912 – 23 October 945) (r. 943–945) was the second King of Goryeo. He was preceded by King Taejo and succeeded by Jeongjong, 3rd Monarch of Goryeo. Early life Hyejong was born to King Taejo and his second wife, Janghwa of the "Oh" clan. She was the daughter of the Magistrate of Naju, Oh Da-ryeon. Prince Wonnyeong (Hangul: 원녕태자, Hanja: 元寧太子; d. 976) or known as Lord Jinju (Hangul: 진주낭군, Hanja: 鎭州郞君) was a Korean Royal Prince as the only son of Taejo of Goryeo and Lady Sukmok. Prince Hyoeun (), personal name Wang Won () or Wang Suk (), also known by his title Prince Dongyang () and Grand Prince Dongyang () was a prince of Goryeo.
