The Consolations Of The Forest
''The Consolations of the Forest: Alone in a Cabin on the Siberian Taiga'' is a 2011 book by the French writer Sylvain Tesson. Its French title is ''Dans les forêts de Sibérie'', which means "in the forests of Siberia". It recounts how Tesson lived isolated for six months, from February to July 2010, in a cabin in Siberia, on the northwestern shore of Lake Baikal. An English translation by Linda Coverdale was published in 2013. Accolades The book was awarded the Prix Médicis essai. It was the runner-up for the Prix Renaudot, losing to Emmanuel Carrère's '' Limonov''. The English translation received the 2014 Dolman Best Travel Book Award. Adaptation The book is the basis for the 2016 film ''In the Forests of Siberia'', directed by Safy Nebbou and starring Raphaël Personnaz. Sylvain Tesson
Sylvain Tesson (born 26 April 1972) is a French writer and traveller born in Paris. He has engaged in a number of unusual travels and expeditions which are the basis for his books. Among his most successful works are '' The Consolations of the Forest'' (2011), about a project to live alone in a Siberian cabin for six months and ' (2019), about the quest for snow leopards in Tibet. For the latter book he received the Prix Renaudot. Early life Sylvain Tesson is the son of Marie-Claude Tesson and the journalist Philippe Tesson who founded the French newspaper ''Le Quotidien de Paris''. An autobiography, sometimes informally called an autobio, is a self-written account of one's own life. It is a form of biography. Definition The word "autobiography" was first used deprecatingly by William Taylor in 1797 in the English periodical ''The Monthly Review'', when he suggested the word as a hybrid, but condemned it as "pedantic".
