"The Clown" ( ger, Der Bajazzo, ''Clown'') is a short story by the 19th- and 20th-century German author Thomas Mann. It was first published in the German literary magazine ''Neue Rundschau'' in 1897, and were after his death, published as part of the collection ''Little Herr Freiedemann and Death in Venice and Other Stories''. The German title ''Der Bajazzo'' is formed from the Italian word used in the title of Ruggero Leoncavallo's opera ''Pagliacci'', meaning clowns, an opera with which Mann was well-acquainted. The title has alternatively been translated as The Joker, suggesting an outsider or oddity. This is a theme strongly explored in this work. ''The Clown'' is a 1931 short animated film by Universal Pictures and one of many in the ''Oswald the Lucky Rabbit'' series. Plot Oswald, as the title implies, is a circus clown who performs acts in the big top along with his partner the live female stuffed doll, aka Kitty. After doing some acts involving horses, Kitty is being asked by the ringmaster to sign some kind of contract. Oswald is suspicious of the ringmaster's plans, and tries to intervene, only to be whipped away by the ringmaster. While Oswald is performing his next act involving a dog and an elephant, the ringmaster tries again to get Kitty to sign. They are, however, interrupted once more by Oswald who finishes on time. Next, it is time for Oswald and the ringmaster to make their appearance. Oswald enters a cannon, and the latter becomes the one to fire it. ''The Clown'' is an album by Charles Mingus, released in September 1957 on Atlantic Records as SD-1260. It is the follow-up to 1956's '' Pithecanthropus Erectus'' and features the improvised narration of Jean Shepherd. A deluxe edition of ''The Clown'' was issued in 2000 on Rhino featuring two bonus tracks. All the tracks were recorded on March 12, 1957, except for "The Clown", recorded on February 13 of the same year. According to Nat Hentoff's liner notes, Mingus explained why he chose those four tracks for the album: "I selected these four over two others that were more intricate because some of those guys had been saying that I didn't swing. So I made some that did. This album also has the first blues I've made on record." ''Spare Parts'' is the second studio album by the English rock band Status Quo, and their final one in the psychedelic vein. It is the first in which the group's roadie Bob Young wrote and co-wrote songs for and with the band. Released in September 1969, it was not a commercial success. The album covers a song written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, "You're Just What I Was Looking for Today". Only one song was slated for a single release. This was the Anthony King–written song "Are You Growing Tired of My Love", backed with the Alan Lancaster composition "So Ends Another Life". Released in April 1969, it reached no. 46 on the UK singles charts.
