The Catlins (TV Series)
''The Catlins'' is an American prime-time soap opera on Superstation TBS that ran from April 4, 1983, to May 31, 1985. Created by Chris McIntyre, it focuses on the lives of two wealthy and feuding families; the Catlin family and the Quinn family. The show is set in Atlanta, Georgia. Overview Catlin family matriarch, Catherine (Mary Nell Santacroce) was widowed. Her son T.J., the head of Catlin Industries, a diversified corporation based in Atlanta and his wife, Annabelle, had five children: sons Matthew, Jonathan and Beau and daughters Jennifer and Maggie. The Quinns were a somewhat evil banking family. Creepy Medgar Quinn had two sons, Seth and Cullen, who were just as bad as their father, and a less evil daughter Eleanor, who was married into the Catlin family, which only served to inflame the rivalry between the families. A soap opera, or ''soap'' for short, is a typically long-running radio or television serial, frequently characterized by melodrama, ensemble casts, and sentimentality. The Soap Opera Encyclopedia (Schemering Book)
''The Soap Opera Encyclopedia'' is a 1985 reference book by Christopher Schemering which assembles comprehensive information about all daytime and prime time soap operas broadcast up to the date of publication. It was revised and reprinted in 1987 and 1988, but is currently out of print. ''The Soap Opera Encyclopedia'' features commentary, analysis and criticism of "every daytime and prime-time television soap opera broadcast on the three major networks, as well as a selection of syndicated, cable, and foreign efforts." It also discusses background, significant storylines and impact of each program, and lists performers and characters. Mary Nell Santacroce
Mary Nell Santacroce (née McKoin; May 25, 1918 – February 17, 1999) was an American actress. She has appeared in such films as ''Wise Blood'' (1979), '' The War'' (1994) and '' Something to Talk About'' (1995). She was the mother of actress Dana Ivey. Biography Mary Nell McKoin was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1918. She was a graduate of both the University of Georgia and Emory University. From 1948-65, she taught speech and drama at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She also taught at Georgia State University from 1965 until 1972. She had two children, daughter Dana and son John, from her marriage to Hugh Ivey, which ended in divorce. She had another son, Eric, from her marriage to Dante Santacroce, her widower. Santacroce died on February 17, 1999 at her home in Atlanta from leukemia and bone cancer.
